Morning light filtered through the window, casting a soft, golden glow across the room. You stirred, blinking away sleep as the reality of what the day would bring slowly sank in. You didn't need to open your eyes to feel the weight of it—the heaviness that had been hanging over you, like a storm cloud you couldn't outrun.

Today, you had to leave.

For a moment, you stayed still, curled up in the warmth of the sheets, trying to hold on to the quiet. You could feel him beside you, his arm loosely draped over your waist. The steady rise and fall of his breathing, the warmth of his body—it was comforting, but it also made your chest tighten with the painful reminder that this was the last time you'd share this space together. The last time it would feel like this.

Slowly and carefully, you moved out from under his arm, trying not to wake him. You sat up on the edge of the bed, your bare feet touching the cold floor. For a moment, you just sat there, staring off into the distance. It was quiet, almost peaceful, but that only made the ache in your chest worse.

Behind you, he stirred, the sound of the sheets rustling as he woke up. You didn't turn around right away. You couldn't. Not yet.

"Morning," he said, his voice rough from sleep.

"Morning," you managed to reply, your voice quiet. You sat up, reaching for the robe at the foot of the bed, slipping it over your shoulders to shield yourself from the chill of the morning air.

You glanced at the door, debating whether to make a quick exit and head to your room upstairs to gather your things. There wasn't much to pack, but even the thought of doing that felt heavy.

As you took a few steps toward the door, your hand already resting on the knob, you felt him behind you. He didn't move closer, but you could sense his hesitation.

"Do you need any help?" he asked, his voice gentle, like he was trying to find the right words but couldn't.

You paused, keeping your back to him for a moment, the offer hanging in the air between you. There was something else behind the question, something he wasn't saying, but you didn't press. You couldn't.

"I'm fine," you said softly, your voice steady even though your heart wasn't. You glanced over your shoulder, offering him a small, fleeting smile before slipping out of the room.

The hallway felt colder as you made your way upstairs to your own room. It was quiet, too quiet, and with every step, the reality of the day settled deeper in your chest. You entered your room, and the sight of your belongings scattered around made it all feel more real. You started to pack, methodically gathering the little you had, trying to keep your mind from straying back to what was waiting for you downstairs.

Once you were ready, the two of you stepped outside together. The air was cool and crisp, a sharp contrast to the warmth of the house you were leaving behind. The city was already awake, the sounds of traffic and people moving through the streets filling the morning air. You clutched your bag a little tighter as you made your way to the car, the weight of your decision growing heavier with each step.

The drive to UA was quiet—too quiet. You sat beside him, staring out the window as the familiar streets passed by. Usually, there was something calming about the view, but today it felt different. Distant. As if everything you knew was slipping away, just out of reach.

After what felt like forever, he broke the silence. "You know," he said, his voice lighter, trying to ease the tension. "It's gonna be pretty boring without you around."

You managed a small laugh, though it was more forced than you'd have liked. "Yeah, well, I'm sure you'll find something else to keep you busy."

He smirked, keeping his eyes on the road. "I'll have to. Can't let things get too peaceful."
