||Chapter 68: The More We Know||

Jay certainly didn't expect a Police Officer in his house, but once hearing what happened he was immediately scared.
Nicky, Trinity, Mya and Aaron were sat on the sofa with Keith in front of them and Jay standing near by, Ike was outside trying to make a phone call.
"Now, kids; Can you tell me what happened, I saw the person in the costume but. . ."
Aaron took a deep breath,"Well. . . We came home from school, Mya and Trinity were outside the house and the door was open, the door had been barged into. . . We left our bags here to make sure nothing was stolen, and then we'd call the police or find another adult."
Keith began to jot things down.
"As we checked the rooms and upstairs, when up there we heard something smash to the ground and creeping downstairs, we saw that person or.  . . Crowface digging through boxes, like he was looking for something."
"Okay, that's good to note, do you have an idea of what they could have been looking for like money?"
Mya swung her legs,"Well, our immediate thought was possibly something from Dad or our Grandparents, they hid things in the house and. . . We did find something.", Keith nods, that was true.
"What did you find?"
Trinity held up the black notebook,"It was stuffed in an old machine.", Keith took it, nodding and put it on the coffee table,"I'll have a read through it, what happened after he saw you kids? Gave chase?", Nicky nods,"He chased me and Aaron upstairs, broke a hole in the door to try and get us until Aaron and I climbed out the window and onto another room.", his dad made a face, Nicky gulped but his dad shook his head,"It's okay, you're not in trouble; Especially since you were being chased.", Nicky nods, Trinity then chimed in next,"Me and Mya were hiding in the closest calling her dad, then Quentin opened the closet door, scaring himself and us, Crowface nearly cornered Nicky and Aaron, but Ike pushed the bookcase onto them and we all ran out of the house.", Keith nods, writing that all down.
Aaron then frowned,"It's weird. . .", he turned to Nicky,"We tried to throw them off, but it was like that person knew the house so well, even shortcuts to cut me and you off, cornered us before Ike saved us.", Nicky nods,"That is odd. . . Maybe they've been in there before?", "But even then the house is a maze, so many doors and yet they breezed through it like nothing."
Keith nods,"That could be an important detail, is there anything else?", Trinity nods,"They were really tall, like taller than the door way that they had to bend down, or they just have a really bad posture or back.", Mya chirped in,"And they made little bird nosies.", Keith nods, jotting that down too.
"Okay; How about you four stay here, with Mr Roth; Until your parents and get you three and we clear the house to be sure that person is gone."
So with that, and an apology to Mr Roth, Keith went outside to talk to Ike and prepare the search of the house.

Jay turned to the kids,"How about some food?", they nod, eagerly.

"Look, I know it's hard to understand and I know I've lied to you and Beatrix, but just know I'm trying to fix this. . . Just trust me, and know I'm sorry."
Ike sighed,"I wish he stopped treating me like I'm a kid.", Keith patted him on the shoulder,"Your siblings are something else, why he was in there with Crowface. . . Who knows.", Ike gulped, stuffing the phone in his pocket as Ted and Diana pull up.

Diana picked up the family picture, the glass smashed and frame destroyed.
Keith turned to Mr Peterson,"According to the kids, Crowface was looking for something. . . We don't know what though, but Trinity found this in one of your machines.", Keith held up the notebook up, Mr Peterson immediately recognised it.
"Oh, that. That was my Dad's. . . We found it hidden in his old office, it was full of notes about The Forest Protectors and other things that didn't make sense, I didn't know if it was ever truly over so, I hid it in case they ever came back.", Keith nods, understanding that Peterson, Ike and Norman would never be free from the thoughts of these people coming back.
"Do you mind if I keep it for the investigation?"
"Knock yourself out, it hopefully will make sense; My father used a lot of complicated smart words."
Ted turned to Diana and Ike,"Sorry about the shelf. . . Only thing I thought of.", "It's fine, thank you for saying them.", Ted took a deep breath,"It might be best for Aaron and Mya to stay out of the house for a while, until we clean, repair and replace doors and new locks.", Diana nods, Keith walked around the house, seeing what Aaron meant by the house feeling like a maze; Door after door.
"There is one thing."
Keith turned to them,"Aaron mentioned during the chase, Crowface managed to follow them with no problem and seemed to have a good sense of your house layout, enough to know shortcuts to cut them off and corner them.", Theodore and Ike glanced at one another.
"And. That whoever this is, has a bad posture or back, and is taller than the doorway."
Diana, Theodore and Ike turned their heads to the doorway, remembering how Robert was a tall guy and the doorways spelled that out perfectly and Theodore was possibly the shortest out of his family, which was saying something.
So this person was potentially fucking taller than Robert.

Keith found his way to the backdoor, guessing that Crowface got out through there and he was he was gonna come back.
