ALEX'S POV:

I placed Happy Box on the ground in front of the darkest forest in the northwest. She didn't move.

"Am I supposed to talk to you?" I asked.

Happy Box flashed red.

"Whatever that means."

Happy Box then raced off into the darkness. I only had one choice, and that was to follow her.

"So.. Uhm.. You know where Nick is?"

Happy Box flashed pink.

"Okay. Still don't know what that means."

Happy Box stopped zipping off into the darkness. I picked her up.

"You okay?"

Happy Box didn't react. I shrugged and continued walking in the direction that Happy Box led me before.

"Do you ever think there's something out there whenever you're somewhere like this?" I asked, knowing Happy Box wouldn't have a direct response.

"I try not to, but sometimes..." I stepped in something that I would suspect was just a puddle, but out here...

"Happy Box... Is that blood?!"

Happy Box flashed red rapidly.

"I don't know what that means, Happy. And I'm not touching anything. Can Rowan please upgrade you so you can answer?!"

Happy Box flashed yellow.

"I still don't know what that means, Happy!" I laughed.

I placed Happy Box on the ground again. I followed her for what seemed like a couple miles until she started ramming into a tree repeatedly.

"That's what you do to wake Nick up... Right?"

Happy Box was still ramming into the tree as I walked around it.

"This... Isn't good." I dropped down. Finding my best friend barely breathing and covered in blood miles away from the bus is not what I would have wanted.

"You think I can carry him back?"

Happy Box flashed yellow and pink.

"Well, yellow and pink are generally happy colors, so I'd go with that's a yes...?"

I attempted at holding Nick so I wouldn't hurt him. Or drop him. Yep, dropping your badly injured best friend in the middle of a bloodstained forest was not an ideal situation.

"Happy Box, can you not listen until we get back to the bus?" I asked.

Yellow.

"Alright, thanks Happy!"

I carried Nick silently in my arms for a few seconds while Happy Box trailed behind us nonchalantly.

"It's kinda weird when it's this quiet."

No responses.

"You can't hear me, can you." I sighed.

Nick was blacked out. I could barely feel his fragile heartbeat. But I could feel him shaking.

"What did they... Do to you?"

Did I mention the overwhelming amount of blood that was covering most of Nick's face and definitely all of his body?

"And what did... I do to you?"

I was the only one to blame for causing Nick to be depressed and somewhat suicidal.
