•••GLASIE'S POV•••
It was actually Rowan who told us to leave. I didn't want to leave. Alex didn't either. But we respected Rowan's decision. She, Tigris, and Cassi had to decide what they were going to do with Nick. I was disappointed that I couldn't help them out, but I trusted a ten year old, a Fifa-obsessed tiger, and a rebel for a good cause with my best friend's life.
//ROWAN//: we should probably keep him here tonight for his safety bc if he goes w u n the squad who knows
//ROWAN//: u just gotta leave now bc we need to do more research to find out exactly how to keep him safe
Once I felt my phone going off in my pocket, I looked up at Alex. Nick was either sleeping or blacked out, I couldn't tell. Alex backed away from the blanket nest slowly, trying his best not to wake Nick up. Before I left, I made sure that he was breathing and close enough to a normal temperature.
Rowan's voice crackled in one of the speakers.
"What's so hard to understand about leaving?" She laughed, the static from the speakers making everything a little more ominous.
I patted Nick's head and walked slowly to the door. Alex had kicked it open this time.
"Thank you so much for staying with Nick... He really needed you guys." Rowan smiled while writing something down.
"Yeah, I'm glad we could help!" I shrugged.
"Hopefully we can help him feel better..." Rowan sighed.
"I mean, we could ignore him and give him what he wants, or we could actually help him and make him feel better." Alex suggested.
"You guys should just back off. I think I got this."
I looked over at Alex. He shrugged.
"Yeah. We should."
••• TWO HOURS LATER •••
••• NICK'S POV •••
I needed to talk to someone. Something was telling me that I was hopeless and would never make it out alive, either because of my injuries or because I chose to.
"Happy Box... C-Can I... Have my phone... P-Please?" I asked as politely as possible.
Happy Box zipped off away from me, causing the various tubes and wires that hooked up to my arms to pull uncomfortably. I waited for a few seconds as Happy Box beeped excitedly. She nudged my phone over to me.
"T-Thanks."
I didn't know exactly how I was gonna call Glasie. I couldn't move my arms, or anything else. I focused myself and quickly clicked Glasie's contact. Luckily, my phone picked up whatever I just did and started calling Glas.
"Hey, what's up?"
I didn't answer.
"You feeling okay?"
"Y-Yeah."
"So... What's up?"
There were a million things I wanted to say to Glas, but I just couldn't.
"You sure you're okay?" Glas asked. I could tell she was getting a little impatient.
"N-Not exactly."
"Rowan will take care of you. Just get some rest, you need it."
"Y-Yeah..."
"I gotta go."
Glas hung up unusually fast, and since I had nothing better to do, I actually slept for a few hours.
••• STRAWBERRY'S POV •••
"No, YOU'RE a huge freaking cupcake nerd!" I laughed, splattering frosting all over Paul's face.
"Aren't we supposed to be doing science?" Bob asked from across the room.
"Well, yeah, but since Glas, Alex, Nick, Cass, and Rowan decided not to show up... IT'S CUPCAKE TIME!"
"They didn't show up because they had serious stuff to do, and we should really be helping them."
"Whatever then." Strawberry sighed, abandoning her cupcakes.
"Let's try to find them." Bob suggested, opening the door to the hallway.
"What if we get lost?"
"Then we die in here."
"Wow, you're taking a dark turn. We're not losing four squad members."
"Nick's not dead, Strawberry."
"Yeah, I know, but like..."
"We're not losing any squad members. Come on."
