The Night We Met (G!P)

A nurse smiles warmly as she approaches you and Jenna. 

Nurse: "Alright, mom and partner, I'll go over a few discharge instructions with you before you go home with this little one"

You nod, listening intently as the nurse begins to explain what Jenna and you both need to know about taking care of the newborn. Jenna is also paying close attention, her hand resting on baby Luke's car seat.

Nurse: "First, make sure to establish a feeding schedule for your baby we recommend feeding every 2-3 hours, and don't forget to burp him afterwards"

She continues, giving you and Jenna instructions on diaper changes, bathing, and general care.

You nod, taking in all the information. It's a lot to remember, but you're determined to take the best care of Luke as you can.

Nurse: "Another important thing to remember is that it's normal for babies to cry, so don't worry if he cries, it's his way of communicating, you'll learn to tell the difference between hungry, tired, and just fussy cries"

She also mentions the importance of immunizations and regular checkups with a pediatrician.

Jenna: "That's a lot to take in, are there any other important things we should know?"

Nurse: "Just one more thing, make sure to get plenty of rest whenever possible, it's easy to forget to take care of yourself when you're focusing on taking care of a newborn, take turns if you can, and don't be afraid to ask for help from family and friends, after all it takes a village to raise a child"

You and Jenna nodded, grateful for the advice. You both looked at each other, both a little overwhelmed but excited to begin this new chapter of your life as parents.

The last few months have passed in a blur of feedings, diaper changes, and hardly any sleep. But you and Jenna are both adjusting as best as you both can, falling into a routine with baby Luke. You both are tired but happy, marveling over Luke's every little accomplishment, every smile, every coo, every moment of growing and though you're both exhausted, you both wouldn't trade this experience for anything in the world.

Currently, Jenna is feeding Luke in bed, propped up against a pile of pillows. You are sitting next to her, watching them with a soft smile.

Y/n: 'Looks like somebody is making a mess already"

You chuckle as you notice a small spot of milk on Luke's chin. Jenna laughs, wiping the milky mess with a cloth.

Jenna: "Yeah, he's a messy eater, just like someone else I know"

Y/n: "Hey, I don't know what you're talking about, I am a very neat and tidy eater"

Jenna: "Yeah, right, remind me again who spilled soup on their shirt at lunch yesterday?"

Y/n: "Okay, okay, I may have spilled a little bit of soup on myself, but that doesn't mean that I'm not a neat eater in general"

Jenna: "Sure, honey, keep telling yourself that"

Luke finishes his feeding, his eyes beginning to droop a little. You grin as you watch Luke drift off to sleep before speaking up again"

Y/n: "I will, and anyway, who's the one that dropped an entire ice cream cone all over herself last week?'

Jenna: "Okay, fine, I may have had a little ice cream incident, but that was a one-time thing"

Y/n: "Exactly, just like me spilling soup"

Jenna rolls her eyes, but she can't help but laugh at your ridiculous debate. She gently lays Luke down in his crib, placing a small stuffed toy next to him.
