Valerie's fingers trailed on the spine of the books, some were small while some were really big. She retrieved her hand, her fingers got dusty from the books, seems they weren't dusted often. She sat down on one of the chairs and placed her book on the round table, and opened one of them. Resting her elbows on the table and placing her cheeks on her palms she began to study.

Hours later, she was so drawn into her books. She was startled when she felt someone standing behind her she immediately snapped her head to see who it was. It was Kyle, he stood looking at her, his hands were on the top of the back rest. Valerie looked shocked to see him she could swear she didn't hear anyone walk in.

''What are you reading squeaky mouse?'' She heard his deep voice in her ears as she looked up at him she almost gaped at how gorgeous he was.

''When did you come in'' She turned back to the table, he walked from behind her and took a seat on one of the four chairs around the table including the one Valerie sat on.

''Not long ago''

''How come I didn't notice you walk in?'' She questioned

''You must have been so focused on what you're doing, you didn't notice'' He said as he relaxed his back. Valerie only gave him a hard glare for no actual reason, before going back to what she was doing.

Kyle only stared at her, one couldn't tell what exactly he was thinking about but his eyes looked calm as he watched her.

Valerie tried to ignore his presence and focus, she thought he had come to apologize for the other day but here he was, sitting quietly. She pouted her lips, what did she expect from an arrogant CEO.

''Don't you have something to say?'' She finally spoke after a while of silence.

Kyle raised a brow ''Like what''

''Like an apology!'' She gave him that look saying OBVIOUSLY. And the next thing she heard was Kyle's chuckle, she had never seen him smile genuinely before and hear he was chuckling he looked so out of this world.

''Why are you laughing'' Valerie felt annoyed

''You want an apology'' He said returning to composure but his eyes still showed amusement.

''You owe me one'' She said, not looking at him.

''Sweetie I never apologize'' Kyle teased, his tone calm and cold.

''Why are you here then?'' She looked at him and folded her arms across her chest.

''This is my house and I can go wherever I want and whenever as well''

On hearing this, Valerie felt even more annoyed. She moved her seat backwards and stood up then she gathered her books and began to walk away.

''Where are you going'' She heard him say. She halted

''To my room'' She didn't turn back, she continued walking, her lips pouted she reached for the door and as soon as her hand touched the door knob, she heard his voice.

''I'm sorry'' He said, his voice stiff, he didn't turn to look at her he was just sitting on the chair with one hand on the table. From the way he said, it was obvious that it wasn't something he usually did.

Valerie retrieved her hand from the knob, surprise evident on her face she smiled and turned around. She returned to her seat and put her books back down.

''For what you did the other day or for sounding rude a minute ago'' She raised a brow.

''Both'' He said.

''Apology not accepted'' She suddenly said and it was Kyle's turn to raise a brow.

''Why''

''I have a condition'' She flicked her hair causing Kyle to smirk.

''What''

''You have to attend my convocation in a weeks-time'' She smiled. Kyle paused for a while, his expression unchanging. She was shocked when she heard me say

''Okay''

She thought he would decline and then she would have to beg him to agree. This man was unpredictable, she thought.

''Really'' She smiled, showing almost all her teeth.

''Thank you'' She said and quickly she rose up and threw her arms around him. Shock was evident on Kyle's face, he wasn't expecting that. His body was stiff he didn't even move his hands. She pulled away and went back to sit down.

''So CEO, what do you do with your spare time?'' She asked him. Kyle wasn't expecting that but he answered anyways.

''I sit in the dark''

Sit in the dark? What kind of response was that, who says that She couldn't hide the confused on her face

''What do you do in your spare time'' He asked back

''I knit and sometimes I bake or watch a movie'' She replied and Kyle nodded thoughtfully.

''Why do you sit in the dark'' She asked him.

''Because my life is just as dark'' Kyle sighed and Valerie's brows creased. He shouldn't have said that but it was too late.

''What do mean by that'' Curiosity evident on her face

''I mean boring'' He shrugged and she mouthed an 'oh'.

''How old are you?'' He asked her, she flipped the page of her book.

''22'' She answered.

''How about you'' She glanced at him, he smirked.

''How old do I look''

Valerie made a face as though she was trying to think she placed her forefinger on her lips and tilted her head.

''Mmm..like 27'' She said and Kyle flashed a smile

''Did I get it right?'' She asked him

''Sure'' Was all he head. Valerie returned to studying for almost an hour. They both just sat quietly, the only sound that could be heard were the sounds of flipping pages and Valerie's yawn from time to time. Kyle just watched her, he noticed how sleepy she was feeling but she still tried to stay up. What a squeaky mouse! He rested his head on the backrest and closed his eyes. After a few minutes, he noticed that he didn't hear any sound of flipping pages or movement.

He opened his eyes and saw the girl fast asleep. She had her head on the book she was reading, her both hands were on the table and her face was facing him. Some stray strands of here covered her face. He smiled and shook his head, his gaze travelled to the wall clock. It was 1:34pm

''It's quite late'' He muttered to himself then he stood up from his seat. He gently removed the book she slept on and arranged it with the other books on the table.
