Chapter 34: Ice cream

The trio walked to where Kyle and Kay were waiting inside Kyle's car. Valerie stood in front of the window of the driver's seat instead of getting into the car, Kyle creased his brows and wind down.

''What'' He asked curtly

''Uhm, my friends and I would love to get ice cream, you know to celebrate today. You don't have to take us if you don't want to, we just..'' She said in a rush.

''Get in'' Kyle interrupted and she looked at him surprised at his response but she smiled and immediately beckoned on Simone and Tasha to come in. Simone nudged and winked at her, silently saying 'I told you so'

Valerie, Kyle and Kay arrived home in the evening, Valerie thanked him and went to see Jade in their room. She was surprised to see Jade sitting on the couch and not lying down like usual.

''Grandma!'' She said excitedly, throwing her arms around Jade. The old woman chuckled and hugged her back

''How was the event'' She asked, as they pulled away.

''It was nice, though I wished you were there'' Valerie's face turning sour at the other part of her sentence.

''Oh mi vida, don't be sad. At least I'm here with you'' Jade pinched her cheeks lightly.

''I know'' She said

''Guess what! '' She suddenly said, her face lighting up again.

''What'' Jade asked eagerly.

''Kyle took the girls and I to get ice cream at my request'' She was smiling from ear to ear. Jade wiggled her brows teasingly.

''Seems to me that he's developed a liking towards you and you have too''

Valerie blushed, before saying ''That's not true grandma, he was just being nice''

''That man is not nice, and you know that'' Jade said

''People change'' Valerie told her

''Yes and love can cause that change'' Jade smiled and Valerie just rolled her eyes.

Meanwhile, Kyle was sitting all alone his room. Flashbacks of the little ice cream outing they had, played in his mind and subconsciously, he smirked.

When they arrived at the mall, Kyle had asked them what flavours they would like. The two girls said chocolate while Valerie said vanilla. They sat at a table to have their ice cream Kyle was taken aback when Valerie offered him a spoon of hers. She raised the spoon to his lips and he froze, Valerie frowned and brought the spoon down.

''I don't take sweets'' He said

''Just give it a try'' She insisted, he wanted to resist more but for some reason he just gave up and had a spoon.

''Do you like it?'' She smiled, Tasha and sim looking at them cheerfully.

''No'' Kyle answered curtly.

He pushed the memories aside and went to bed.

Six months passed by so fast, Valerie's life changed a whole lot in these passed months. From living with her grandma, to living with an arrogant and sexy looking CEO. After her conversation with Jade that night, Valerie could not help but ponder about it.

Had she really fallen for the CEO? Did she have feelings for him? He was cold hearted but she found herself embracing it. Even if she liked him, he didn't like her back, he could never like her back, not even in her dreams so she pushed that thought to the very back of her mind.

Valerie had secured a job as a web designer at a firm a few months ago. She had been saving up some money to rent an apartment for Jade and herself. Speaking of Jade, the old woman was fully recovered and kicking again LOL!

Valerie had been having that dream, she kept having them, she had them at least once a week. She finds herself in the dark, and the silhouette of a man appears, she moves back in fear, and the silhouette disappears into thin air. That's how the dream always goes.

It's a brand new morning and Valerie had to prepare for work as usual. She had her bath, put on her clothes, grabbed her bag and phone, then headed downstairs. She usually wore a white T shirt and a black pencil skirt as that was the dress code.

Her intention was to save up enough money so she could move and it seemed, she was getting closer to her goal!!

She was about to have breakfast at the dining table, when she met Kyle there.

''Good morning'' She smiled

'''Morning'' He said, not lifting his gaze to look at her.

She pulled her seat and sat down, she looked at the food served before her and the next minute, she began to eat.

She was barely half way through her food when her phone rang. She reached for her phone in her bag, Kyle lifted his gaze.

She looked at the screen, it was the manager.

''Hello, Good morning sir'' She answered the call.

''Come to the office right now'' A male voice said from the other end.

''But sir..it's still about 40 minutes before the office opens'' She said.

''There's a design you and your team need to complete, a reputable customer will come to see it in 2 hours'' The manager said.

''but sir, I'm not sure if we would be able to complete the design in such a short time'' Valerie told him

'' that's why you have to come now. Come to the office Valerie, don't be late'' He hung up.

Valerie quickly rose up .

''Your food'' She heard the CEO say.

''I can't finish it, my manager said I should come to work right now'' She explained

''It's over 30 minutes before work time'' He said

''Yeah, but there's urgent work to do Bye'' She said before heading for the door. As soon as she left, Kyle's face darkened. He seemed displeased when he saw her leave her food, just to work for some guy and stress.

Valerie got to the office on time and she met with her team members who were already arranging to start working. Fauna, her colleague approached her with a smile.

''I see Mr Jones put a call to you too'' She said, Mr Jones was the manager.

''Yeah, I couldn't even finish breakfast'' Valerie sighed

''I didn't get to eat at all'' Fauna chuckled and Valerie did too. When Valerie newly started to work there some months back, Fauna gave her the warmest attitude and soon they became friends.
