Chapter 9「The Sun's Smile」

Karin's POV

I wake up to the birds chirping outside of my window in the morning and my alarm clock ringing. I manage to reach for my clock and stop it. I sit up slowly and stretch. I then look at Felitai, who was sleeping peacefully in her small bed-like cushion. She was purring a bit in her sleep. How cute~ I smile and pet her head softly.

I stare at the clock. 8:26 AM.

"Ah, guess I won't be late~" I thought peacefully as I looked away.

Wait, WHAT?! I gaze at the clock again, only to realize that I'm 26 minutes late!! School already started at 8:00 AM!

"Uwah, I'm very late!" I yelled, jumping out of my bed quickly. Felitai woke up, her eyes looking sleepy and droopy with her typical cute curved mouth look. I forcibly place on my glasses, put on my school uniform, comb my hair and then style it into low-braided pigtails, brush my teeth, and gather the things I need for school. Felitai flew towards me, confused.

"I'm late! I'm late! I'm late!" I repeated as I panicked.

"Uhh..." Felitai murmured.

"C'mon, let's get going!" I pleaded as I exited my room and sprinted down the hallway with Felitai by my side. I stumbled a little as I ran, and I scampered down the stairs. As I ran down, my glasses fell on one side, appearing crooked. I immediately fix it up in a sloppy manner. I was a complete mess.

I saw my mother place my breakfast on the table and then she started tidying the table up. I run towards the table and take one of the slices of toasted bread and head to the front door. The toasted bread had strawberry jam spreaded on it.

"Bye Mom, take care, love you!" I quickly said before taking off as I held the toasted bread with my mouth.

"But Karin, it's-" I hear my mother reply until I slammed the front door. I have no time to talk to my mother, I have to hurry! As I rushed, I munched on the bread.

~ 10 minutes later ~

Finally! I finally reached the school! I clasped my knees with my hands and panted heavily. I was in front of the metal school gates. I was already finished the bread I had.

"I... made... it..." I panted in between the words.

"Whoa Karin, what's with all the hustle?" I see Natsumi-chan approach, and Inudigo popped out of her bag.

"I'm..." I continued panting. "I'm late...! Wait... aren't you supposed to be in class right now? It's like 8:41 AM right now!"

"Um.. what? No it isn't."

"Wha?" I saunter towards the school gates with Inudigo by my side, only to see middle-schoolers outside, and not in class.

"Uh, Karin, I think you read your clock wrong, it's 7:41 AM right now, not 8:41 AM!" Rie-chan approached Natsumi-chan and I and chuckled a little.

"Oh! Right!" I chuckled, scratching the back of her head in embarassment. "Sorry about that! Better fix the time on my alarm clock!" I continued as I had my bright smile on.

"Wow Karin-chan, even if something goes wrong for you, you still smile when that happens." Kohana-chan approaches us and smiled.
