Rounds of applause rung endlessly from behind the curtains backstage, the audience impressed by the performance such mere students could present upon the auditorium stage. The bursts of hands colliding together were deafening in the ears of the next scheduled performers. The lights illuminating the stage brightly, the creaks upon the stage platform crackling... the atmosphere felt so unreal to them. And it gave them a nervous chill. Even so, they remained determined to give their audience their best performance.
A performance to be remembered.
"Next up, Class 6-C will be performing..."
As the announcer was in the midst of her announcement, a Class 6-C student clad in a villager costume fretted nervously from behind the stage, turning around to share his glance, his nervous breakdown clear in his eyes and clattering teeth.
Two figures strode towards the velvet curtains with a steady approach, their appearances shrouded in shadow, making their identities hard to make out. One of the two clasped onto the creases of the red drapes, looking far into the audience that awaited them.
"Are you nervous?" The other figure said gently, noting her friend's apprehension.
She said nothing. Only the crowd's distant chatters of patience were heard.
"Yeah." She replied finally, nodding. "A little..."
Her friend looked at her, mouth fumbling around in rising anxiety. Then, she took one step forward, closing a tiny gap between she and the other figure.
"Hey, no need to worry." She hissed in an assuring tone, resting a hand on her shoulder. "You're not the only one. I'm sure everyone feels the same way." She beckoned behind her, where their classmates stood.
"No, it's not that."
"Huh?"
"I've been thinking about... a lot of things... I know everyone is looking forward to putting up this show for their own reasons. The thrill of being onstage is one I can name, but to me, that's not the only reason."
Her friend turns around to face the unknown figure, her hands still latched firmly on the curtains. While her face was still unidentifiable, it can be noted that her medium-length hair, tied in twin braids, flowed about during her half spin.
"YOU are my reason." A grateful smile crept up her lips, a sight that was distinguishable even through the shadows. The stage lights flickered alight from behind her, casting the shade on her to be much darker. "I was able to come this far because of you."
The other figure just stood, mouth agape at those powerful words.
"Shika..."
"Class 6-C will begin now! Please enjoy!" The announcement rung across the auditorium, just the right amount of volume to leave its mark.
The two girls shifted around in a panic, only a short-lived one, that is.
"Go, go! That's your cue!"
"Right!" Before she could dart into the spotlight, her friend halts her with another hold of the shoulder.
"Wait."
"Huh? ... What is it?"
Suddenly, she offered a pinky finger.
"We"ll make this the best production to have ever been performed. Promise?"
The figure in braids was taken aback at this action. Her pinky lunged out, even so. Together their pinky fingers bundle together as if in an embrace.
