The investigation was in full swing, and both Taehyung’s and Jungkook’s teams were working relentlessly to uncover the truth behind Min Jiha’s death. It had been a whirlwind of emotions since the case came to them, but now, it was time to focus on finding the evidence that could turn the tide in their favor. Taehyung and Jungkook knew they couldn’t afford any mistakes, as the first trial was in just four days.
That morning, the team gathered in the large conference room of their office. The faint scent of freshly brewed coffee and Jin’s homemade lunch filled the air, providing a temporary comfort from the chaos surrounding them.
"Alright, let’s go over what we have so far," Jungkook said, standing at the head of the table, his voice commanding but calm. His sleeves were rolled up, revealing the tension running through his veins.
Taehyung sat next to him, focused but radiating a quiet confidence. "We’ve got a series of text messages between Jiha and one of her band members. Something feels off about them. I’ve read through them multiple times, and I believe there's hidden tension."
Yeonjun, Taehyung’s junior attorney, leaned forward with a frown. "I noticed that too. Some of the messages seem innocuous at first, but the subtext implies there was a power struggle going on within the band."
"Power struggle?" Soobin, from Jungkook’s team, asked, taking notes. "Do you think that could have pushed her over the edge? Or was someone trying to silence her?"
Taehyung exchanged a glance with Jungkook. "We can’t be sure yet, but we need to dig deeper into those messages. There’s something we’re missing."
Just then, Jin and Namjoon entered with trays of homemade food. "I thought you all could use some fuel," Jin said with a smile, setting down plates of bibimbap and kimchi stew. "It’s hard to solve a case on an empty stomach."
"Thanks, Jin-hyung," Beomgyu said, eagerly reaching for a bowl. "We definitely need this."
Mingyu, Jungkook’s legal secretary, passed out files to everyone. "Before we dive back in, we should review the tasks assigned for the trial prep. We’ve only got four days."
Jungkook nodded in agreement, his eyes serious. "Right. Soobin, you’ll focus on analyzing the autopsy report again. I want every detail combed through. Taehyun, I need you to keep digging into Jiha’s finances—anything suspicious could be useful. Mingyu, keep liaising with the police and make sure we have access to all of the surveillance footage from the night of Jiha’s death."
Taehyung chimed in, addressing his team. "Yeonjun, I need you to cross-reference Jiha’s public statements with those private text messages. Look for inconsistencies. Jisoo, you’ll focus on interviews with the band members. Beomgyu, you’ll handle anything regarding the media’s portrayal of the case. We need to be ready for any surprises they might throw at us."
Everyone nodded, understanding the gravity of their assignments.
As they ate, the conversation turned back to the case. "The messages between Jiha and her bandmate… I have a feeling one of them was hiding something," Jungkook said, pushing his food around with his chopsticks as he reviewed the texts again. "There's something cold about how the other band member responds, like they were setting her up for something."
"Do you think it could have been a planned confrontation?" Jisoo asked, biting her lip in thought.
Taehyung leaned back, eyes focused. "It’s possible. If Jiha found out something she wasn’t supposed to, they could have manipulated the situation to make her look unstable."
Beomgyu clicked his tongue. "That could explain why the band member's messages seem so passive-aggressive. Maybe they wanted to push her over the edge or frame her for something."
"Exactly," Jungkook said, his eyes narrowing. "We need to make sure the judge understands this dynamic. This is more than just a simple misunderstanding or argument. It’s about power, control, and possibly murder."
The room fell into silence for a moment, everyone deep in thought.
Namjoon stood up, placing a comforting hand on Taehyung’s shoulder. "You’re doing great, all of you. Just make sure you’re ready for whatever the prosecution throws your way."
Jungkook looked around the table, determination burning in his eyes. "We will be. This trial is too important to lose. For Jiha, for her family, and for all the truth that’s still hidden."
Taehyung glanced at Jungkook, admiration in his eyes. He knew how much Jungkook was pouring into this case, and it made his heart swell with pride. Despite everything, they were in this together, and that gave him confidence.
By the time lunch was over, everyone returned to their tasks. The next four days passed in a blur of long hours, endless cups of coffee, and late-night meetings. Everyone was on edge, but they knew they couldn’t afford to falter.
Jungkook worked late into the night, reviewing every piece of evidence they had, and Taehyung stayed by his side, offering silent support. Even though they were tired, neither of them let it show. They knew the stakes were too high.
On the eve of the trial, the team gathered for one last meeting. Everyone looked exhausted, but there was a glimmer of hope in their eyes. They had done everything they could to prepare.
"We’re ready," Taehyung said, standing tall next to Jungkook. "Let’s win this."
Jungkook looked at him, a small smile playing on his lips. "We will."
And with that, the countdown to the trial began.
