The atmosphere in Jin and Namjoon's office was thick with tension as both Taehyung and Jungkook arrived, accompanied by their respective teams. Jin, sitting behind his large desk, looked unusually serious. Namjoon, standing beside him, held a folder in his hand, and his expression was grave.
Taehyung entered with his team—Yeonjun, the junior attorney; Jisoo, their legal secretary; and Beomgyu, the paralegal. They were all curious about why they'd been called in for this urgent meeting. On the other side of the room, Jungkook arrived with his own team—Soobin, Mingyu, and Taehyun—looking equally perplexed. But when Jungkook and Taehyung locked eyes, the air seemed to shift. They hadn’t expected to see each other there, and their surprise was clear.
Jungkook gave a nod in Taehyung’s direction, and Taehyung responded with a slight smile, though there was an undercurrent of unease between them. They didn't yet know why they were both there, but something felt off.
Jin stood up, cutting through the tension in the room. "Thank you all for coming on such short notice. Namjoon and I have just received news about a case that needs the utmost discretion and care. This isn’t just any case; it's the death of a K-pop idol."
The room went still, the gravity of Jin’s words sinking in. Jungkook’s jaw clenched, and Taehyung’s face paled. This was big—bigger than anything they had handled before.
Namjoon continued, his voice firm. "This case is high-profile, and it’s already attracting a lot of media attention. We believe there’s more to the story than what’s being reported. The police suspect foul play, and there are already threats being made against anyone involved in the investigation. That’s where you all come in."
Jungkook’s fists tightened at his sides. The danger of this case was clear, and it immediately sent his protective instincts into overdrive, especially when it came to Taehyung. He glanced over at his lover, but Taehyung was staring straight at Namjoon, his expression unreadable.
Jin placed the folder on the desk. "We want both of your teams to work on this together. Given the complexity and sensitivity of the case, we need the best we have, and that means you two. Your combined expertise could make all the difference."
Jungkook frowned, his voice sharp as he interrupted. "My team can handle it. We don’t need to put anyone else at risk, especially Taehyung’s team."
The room went silent for a moment, everyone staring at Jungkook. Taehyung looked at him, his brows furrowing in confusion. "What do you mean by that?" he asked softly.
Jungkook shot him a look, his eyes filled with worry. "This case is dangerous, Tae. You know that. I’m not comfortable with you getting involved."
Before Taehyung could respond, Namjoon intervened. "Jungkook, we understand the risks, but this case is too big for one team. We need both of you. Taehyung’s team is just as capable."
Jungkook’s frustration was evident. He was torn between his duty as a lawyer and his fear for Taehyung’s safety. "I just think... if something happens—"
"Nothing’s going to happen," Taehyung interrupted, his voice calm but firm. "We’ve handled tough cases before. I’m not backing down from this, and neither is my team."
Jungkook's temper flared. "Tae, this isn’t just another case. This could cause real harm. You don’t know what kind of people we’re dealing with!"
Without another word, Jungkook turned on his heel and stormed out of the room, his frustration spilling over. Taehyung hesitated for only a moment before excusing himself and rushing after him.
Jungkook was pacing in the hallway, his hands clenched into fists, his face set in a storm of emotion. Taehyung approached him cautiously, knowing how protective Jungkook could get.
"Jungkook," Taehyung said softly, but his lover didn’t stop pacing. "Hey, look at me."
Jungkook finally halted, his eyes blazing with worry and anger. "Why are you being so stubborn about this? This isn’t about pride, Tae. This is dangerous, and I can’t—"
Before he could finish, Taehyung stepped forward and wrapped his arms around Jungkook, pulling him into a tight embrace. The sudden warmth of Taehyung’s body against his own stopped Jungkook’s angry tirade in its tracks.
"Shh," Taehyung whispered, resting his head against Jungkook’s chest. "I know you’re scared. But we’re in this together. I trust you, and I’m confident when I’m by your side. You don’t have to do this alone."
Jungkook let out a long, frustrated sigh, his arms coming up to hold Taehyung close. "I just don’t want to see you get hurt. Not because of me. I’m supposed to protect you."
"And you do. Every day," Taehyung murmured against his chest. "But I can handle this, Jungkook. We’re a team. You’re not alone in this, okay? We’ll get through it together."
Jungkook pulled back slightly, looking down into Taehyung’s eyes, searching for any sign of doubt. But all he saw was calm determination, the same confidence that had drawn him to Taehyung in the first place.
"Okay," Jungkook said quietly, though the tension in his voice hadn’t completely disappeared. "But you promise me, if things get too dangerous, you’ll step back."
Taehyung smiled softly, brushing his hand along Jungkook’s cheek. "I promise. But right now, we need to focus on winning this case. We’ve got this, Jungkookie."
Jungkook exhaled slowly, finally allowing himself to relax a little. "Alright. Let’s go back in."
Together, they returned to the office, and as they re-entered the room, Jin and Namjoon exchanged knowing glances. They had seen the tension between Jungkook and Taehyung before but knew that, in the end, they worked best when they were side by side.
Jin cleared his throat. "Good to have you both back. So, we’re all agreed that both teams will take this case?"
Jungkook nodded, though his expression was still serious. "Yeah, we’ll do it."
Namjoon smiled faintly. "Great. Now, let’s start going over the details."
As Jin and Namjoon explained the case in more depth, Taehyung and Jungkook exchanged a quick glance. It was going to be a tough battle, but they knew they could face it as long as they were together.
Their teams dove into work immediately, gathering evidence, preparing statements, and mapping out a strategy that would bring justice for the fallen idol. It was clear this would be one of the hardest cases they’d ever faced, but Taehyung’s quiet strength and Jungkook’s fierce determination kept them focused.
No matter the dangers ahead, they would stand together—side by side, just as they always had.
