The fluorescent lights flickered overhead as you all gathered in the familiar confines of the BAU conference room. Spencer, ever the inquisitive mind, had posed a seemingly innocuous question to break the monotony of your day.

"What's everyone's favorite color?" he asked, his gaze sweeping over the team.

As each member took their turn to respond, you sat quietly, mulling over your own answer. Your eyes drifted to Derek, your boyfriend, who sat beside you, his expression relaxed yet attentive. You couldn't help but smile.

When it was your turn, you cleared your throat and spoke up. "Brown"

There was a moment of silence, broken only by the faint hum of the air conditioning. Derek's eyebrows shot up in surprise, his gaze flickering to yours in curiosity.

"Why brown?" he asked, genuine curiosity lacing his words.

You returned his gaze, a playful twinkle in your eyes as you leaned in closer to him. "Brown things are so pretty," you said softly, a smile tugging at the corners of your lips, "Like chocolate, coffee, and your eyes"

A faint blush crept up Derek's cheeks, his lips quirking into a smile. "Smooth" he murmured, his voice low with amusement.

The rest of the team chuckled at your exchange, their attention shifting back to Spencer as he continued with the discussion. But for Derek and you, the moment lingered, a shared connection woven between you like an invisible thread.

As the meeting drew to a close, Derek reached for your hand, his fingers intertwining with yours in a silent gesture of affection. You squeezed his hand gently, savoring the warmth and comfort it brought.

Later that evening, you sat together on the couch in your shared apartment, the soft glow of lamplight casting shadows across the room. Derek's arm slipped around your waist, drawing you closer to him. You leaned into his embrace, relishing the warmth of his touch and the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. He then turned to you with a smile.

"Brown, huh?" he teased, his eyes sparkling with affection.

You nodded, returning his smile with one of your own. "Brown," you affirmed, reaching out to trace the line of his jaw with your fingertips, "Because brown things are so pretty. Just like you"
