"Do you think there's something wrong with it?"
"Wrong with what?"
"The way I love"
There's a heavy silence that hangs in the air. So heavy it weights down on your shoulders, tears filling the brim of your eyes.
Is a heavy sigh that breaks the powerful silence. "No, honey. There isn't. At all. Have someone said something?"
Sitting on the bathroom floor you looked at Emily, your face definitely redder than you could have imagined. "It's just," you sobbed, "A break-up is heavy enough as it is, and then people throw in their stupid judgment. They make me feel dirty and wrong like my feelings aren't worth as much as theirs because I'm a woman who loves another woman"
She came closer, slowly moving to sit by your side. "It's hard at first," she admitted, her trembling voice betraying the sweet smile she gave you, "It changes. The way they look at you, the way they speak to you. I've been there too. People out there think they know more than you, about life, about love. But they don't"
You put your arms around yourself, giving yourself the comfort no one could seem to give you anymore. Then slowly your eyes met and you flinched from what you saw in hers, so much resignation it chilled you from the core.
You choked back a sob, and for just a second your breath caught in your throat.
You coughed once. "I feel different" you uttered, three little words that held so much pain.
"You feel that way because they make you feel that way. But it's not true"
"I hate it"
"I know" Emily whispered. "But remember that the only important thing, in the end, is what's inside here" she pointed to your heart, putting a finger at your chest.
You smiled.
You wished everyone was like her.
You wished everyone loved to love, not to judge.
