The sun streamed through the large windows of the lecture hall, casting a warm glow over the rows of empty seats. You stood at the front of the room, your notes spread out before you, prepared for another day of teaching. It was the first day of the new semester, and you were eager to meet your students and start teaching again.
As the room filled with the last eager students, you saw Spencer coming in too.
"Ah, I see you've finally decided to join us, Professor Reid" you teased, gesturing to the clock on the wall as he made his grand entrance, a few minutes late as usual.
He paced to the podium, setting his materials on it, and turned around smirking at you, his arms crossed over his chest. You and Spencer had been rivals since the day you both started working at the university. You were both highly competitive and always tried to outdo each other in every aspect.
"Good morning to you too, Y/N" he replied, trying to hide the smile forming on his lips, "I see you're still trying to steal my spotlight"
You scoffed playfully. "Oh, please. I'm just trying to keep up with your charm and wit" you replied, a mischievous glint in your eyes.
"I bet"
You rolled your eyes and turned back to face the class, ignoring him. You began your lecture, trying your best to engage the students and make a good first lesson.
But whenever you looked at Spencer, he would give you a sly smile or make a sarcastic comment, causing the students to laugh. It was clear that he was also trying to win them over and be the most liked professor.
As he later took your place in front of the whiteboard, you couldn't help but watch him and his sleek figure. Maybe it was the way his hair fell across his face, or maybe his almost arrogant way of walking, or even perhaps his vibrant intelligence that could scare away anyone close enough to him, but you couldn't keep quiet from teasing him for a second longer. "Think you can keep the students awake today?"
Spencer chuckled, the sound carrying across the room like a challenge. "Oh, I don't know, Y/N," he retorted, his voice dripping with sarcasm, "I hear caffeine helps with that"
You rolled your eyes in mock exasperation, a smirk playing at the corners of your lips. "Yes, because we all know your lectures are the epitome of riveting" you teased, earning a laugh from the students who were beginning to settle into their seats.
Spencer feigned offense, placing a hand over his heart in sham hurt. "Ouch, Y/N," he replied, his tone melodramatic, "I'm wounded"
As the lecture progressed, you and Spencer continued to trade playful barbs and jabs, each comment more outrageous than the last.
You baited each other relentlessly but there was no denying it that the man had a charm of his own.
