And you sat on his lap, facing him, while he eyed you carefully, his hands rested on your thighs.
He pulled the sharpie cap off. "I'm going to draw a tattoo on you" he spluttered, a huge smile playing on his lips.
"Okay then" you smiled back as your eyes followed his hands, your full weight on him.
He drew one of the only things he was actually capable of drawing, a butterfly. Spencer was not exactly a person passionate about drawing, indeed he rather enjoyed reading, but then one afternoon you were walking in the park, hand in hand, and saw a kid running and laughing in front of you two, a free-flying butterfly before him.
"When I was a little girl I loved butterflies too" you told him.
His head turned towards you, his face pure surprise. "You did?"
"Yeah"
"And what about now?"
You looked at him, searching for an answer for both of you. You had never really thought about it.
You smiled. "I guess so, you know. It's just that so many things I loved in the past simply no longer have a place in the rush of my life now"
The memory made your heart warm with love, knowing that after that day he had spent hours watching tutorials on how to draw a simple but shaped one, just for you to be a kid for one moment again, and he was proud to say that after hours, he was able to do it.
Since then he had always doodled butterflies everywhere. He would draw them on the edges of papers, on his hands if he were bored, on the edges of his desk, and on notes.
It had become his favorite thing of all.
You watched him, as he leaned into you and drew on a bare spot on your arm, the only place that had little to no scars. His chest rose and sunk as you took in soft breaths.
It was then, that you could say, you felt the most at peace.
