“I still cannot believe we can’t open doors.”

“And I can’t believe we aren’t using an illusion- like you told your mother.”

Cosette scoffs, not moving from her spot on Blinky’s head. The troll had a surprisingly soft scruff.

“What she doesn’t know won’t kill her.” She says, rolling her eyes.

“And if I tell her?”

“She’ll kill us both. You for not using the illusion in the first place, and because you’re a part of me.”

“...Fair point.” Talon pauses. “So… I’ve been bored in here for a bit and I saw some things.. A lot of things…"

Cosette pauses, “Hey, Blinky, how long until we’re there?”

“I don’t quite know, Cosette.” Blinky says. “Why?”

“I’m tired. I’m gonna take a quick nap. Wake me when we get there?” She suggests.

“Of course.” Blinky nods.

Cosette closes their eyes and retreats into the mindscape with Talon, looking at him across from her. He seemed nervous, and sad. Really sad.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” He asks.

“I didn’t want to drag you into it.”

“I could have helped.”

“I know.”

“Then why?”

“I handled it. They won’t find me here.”

“You lied to me about them.”

Cosette shook her head, a look of pain on her face.

“I didn’t think they would get this close to Arcadia. But now that he’s dead, I don’t have to worry about him. I just have to worry about his father.” Cosette says, crossing her arms. “He has more resources. Ways he could find me. I guess that’s another reason I’m happy- thankful even- about my transformation.”

“You said you got into trouble with a group. Not an entire organization when you were 10.” He says while squinting his eyes at her.

“I didn’t want to worry you. It was 14 years ago! And they killed my father, Talon. While I was under the impression that I was saving his life.” Cosette sneers. “I was 10. My whole world had already crashed! I was trying to fix it.”

“I know.” Talon says, a sympathetic look replacing his slightly angered one. “I know it all. I didn’t mean to breach your privacy.”

“No, Talon- It’s fine. I just… I thought you were angry at me for it all.” She says, shaking her head. “You’re my best friend. I know I should have trusted you. I do. I just didn’t want to worry you.”

As she spoke, her voice got quieter.

“I know. And you have every right to search my memories now.” Talon says.

“I mean, I will eventually.. But I just feel like living in the moment, you know? Can we just forget it even happened?” Cosette pleads. “At least until this is all over?”

“Don’t worry. I think Blinky’s trying to wake us up anyways.”

“Really? It’s only been 5 minutes.” Cosette scoffs.
