Thirty-one- Record Lee

I walk out with Alice and Kora in tow as Titan stays behind to clean the kitchen.

Its colder outside now making me thankful that i decided to put on a hoodie as i watch Alice pull a hat out of her pocket and puts it on. She puts her hands back in her pocket and i watch her, It's crazy she doesn't even look like she's old enough to be a mom to a middle schooler let alone a twenty-six year old.

"Thank you for inviting me into your home, I know i was probably interrupting something." She unlocks her car before stopping to lean in front of it.

I glance at the trees across the street and watch the leaves fall off the branches as i think about what was happening before she rung that doorbell. A shiver runs up my spine and its only partially because of the wind. Yeah she definitely was.

I clear my throat and focus back on her. "Don't worry we were just sleeping."

I watch her grassy eyes glance at my neck. "Alright."

Why did she say it like that? And why did she look at my neck?

Her face gets serious."Thank you for being with him, you don't know how much this means."

I immediately shake my head. "You don't have to thank me." I smile just thinking about him. "I've never met a man so kind, you raised him well." I laugh just thinking about the whole situation. "It's a blessing really, he was the best person to take care of my stubborn ass. Otherwise i would be worse off right now.

She smiles. "Well I'm glad to hear that. You call me if  you ever have any problems concerning him, I'll be more than happy to make the drive."

I grin."I'll keep that in mind. You have a safe trip back and I'm excited to meet the rest of your family."

She surprises me by going in for a hug but i quickly return it. "It was so nice meeting you Record, please don't be a stranger." She squeezes me. I swear I've never seen someone so excited to meet me before, i kinda love it.

I pat her back and we say our goodbyes before i watch her drive away.

I tug on Kora's leash before putting my hands in my pocket and walk down the street. It's really a nice day out, perfect for opening my windows and lazing around on the couch with Titan. I smile just thinking about it.

And then i cheese like an idiot when I think about last night. Now that i think about it, who was at the door last night? She didn't mention it but i should've asked her. I don't regret not answering it though, they interrupted us at a pivotal turning point in our relationship.

I hear Kora bark and i look around realizing we're across the street from the place that burned down. I look both ways before crossing the street to take a closer look. The structure is still there but everything inside the store burnt, some of the shelves are still standing but other than that this whole place needs to be renovated.

"Hey girlie, what are you doing here?" I hear a familiar voice behind me and i turn around to see the older man i saved that day limping towards me.

A small smile sets on my face."Sure you should be walkin right now?"

He waves me off. "Ive had worse. Still didn't answer my question."

I shrug looking back on the store."Taking my dog on a walk, ended up here."

"Why are you here?"

"This is my store. Finally snuck away when my daughter wasn't lookin, i needed to see the damage for myself." He whistles looking at the damage. "It's a damn good thing i got insurance. I'll have people here next week tearing the guts out before we start the remodeling."

I nod relieved that his business isn't gone forever. "Thats some good news."

His face crinkles with laughter."It's great news."

I nod, rubbing my finger along the door frame."Did they ever find out who torched it?"

He shakes his head a little defeated. "Nope. You're the only one that got a good look at him. I haven't heard a word. I feel like the police ain't even trying."

I rub the soot between my fingers. Who the hell would burn down a game store?

I shrug trying to be optimistic. "Maybe he'll turn up again. Don't worry if I ever see him again I'll tackle his ass."

His eyes crinkle as he grins."With your busted arms? I don't think so."

I raise my eyebrow, wiping the soot from my fingers onto the wall."You'd be surprised. I carried your fat ass out. And lifted that shelf of you while inhaling smoke."

He bursts out laughing at my rudeness and it surprises me. "Alright, you got a point."

I squint."What was your name again?"

He holds out his hand."Hershel. Hershel Grimes."

I take it, noticing he has the same last name of that dude in the zombie show me and Titan just started watching. "Well Mr.Grimes it was nice seeing you again, but I should start heading home."

He nods understanding. "Before you go, whats the name of the lady who saved my 'fat ass'?"

I grin. "Record Lee."

I walk in and notice the kitchen is empty and Kora's dog bowls are filled.

I take the leash off before taking my shoes off and walking further in.

I see that the tv is on and it's playing old reruns of that kids show, Teen Titans.

I watch Starfire fly across the screen as Titan lays on the couch with his arm under his head, so focused on the tv he still hasn't noticed our presence.

I smile as i lean against the wall and watch the tv for a second. He's more interested in a kids show than watching The Walking Dead with me.

I guess I can't blame him, but i will be making him watch all 11 seasons with me.

I shimmy out of my jeans and leave them on the floor before i go to the foot of the couch near his feet. It's then he realizes I'm here and i see his eyes widen as his eyes snap to my bare legs. "I didn't hear you come in." He looks pleased to see me as he holds out his hand, inviting me to come over and it makes me smile.

I crawl on top of him and lay my head on his chest as i feel his hands slide under my hoodie and wrap around my bare waist. I slightly shiver at how warm his hands are compared to my skin and i feel his arms tighten around me.

His voice comes out soft. "Are you cold?"

I put my hands under his shirt. "Not anymore."

I feel his chest shake as he lightly chuckles running his hand up and down my back in a soothing motion making me sleepy.

I watch Cyborg and robin talk on the screen."Cartoons, huh."

"I can change it if you want." He begins to reach for the remote but i stop him.

"No it's fine." I close my eyes as feel one of his hands slide down to my ass and i eventually fall asleep.
