Chapter 21.1.21

Guo Wentao stepped outside, his expression far from the relaxed and happy demeanor he had shown moments earlier in the house. Who would have thought that his mother, in her forties, could still be pregnant? No one knew the mix of worry and relief that coursed through him when he learned of his mother's unexpected miscarriage.

Despite this, he couldn't bring himself to resent the unborn child; yet, his feelings were undeniably complex.

Upon seeing Sun Yuebai at his home, Guo Wentao's anger flared. "You really are a nuisance. Do you people just enjoy lurking around other people's homes?"

At that moment, Sun Yuebai was distracted, staring at the grape trellis in the yard, reminiscent of a canopy pavilion, contemplating the idea of planting one at his own home. An Shuting would surely appreciate it in the autumn.

But Guo Wentao's harsh words shattered his good mood, and his expression darkened. "Do I know you?"

With a sneer, Guo Wentao retorted, "You seduced Wen Jiaxu so brazenly that he neglected his wife and children for you. And yet, here you are, intruding into my home."

Wen Jiaxu, the young master of Wenxiang Tower, was Guo Wentao's close friend and the brother of his good friend, Wen Jianing. Jiaxu had spiraled into a haze of drinking and debauchery, neglecting his family and allowing the women of his household to bear the burden of their finances. Guo Wentao had tried to intervene before, but now, confronted with Sun Yuebai, he was determined to teach the actor a lesson.

He stepped forward, raising his fist high, ready to strike.

Sun Yuebai quickly stepped back, blocking the blow with his arm.

Just then, An Shuting emerged and witnessed Guo Wentao bullying Sun Yuebai. Old grievances flared in his heart, and he rushed over. Before Guo Wentao could react, he wrapped one arm around his neck and covered his mouth with the other hand.

Caught off guard, Guo Wentao was struck from behind by An Shuting, the very young doctor he had just met in his mother's room. No one had ever dared to attack him before. Desperate, he opened his mouth to call for help, but An Shuting silenced him.

An Shuting was not about to give Guo Wentao the chance to shout for help. He glanced at Guo Wentao, whose furious demeanor resembled that of a rabid dog, and with a swift movement, he dislocated his jaw.

Sun Yuebai watched in astonishment, feeling a rush of satisfaction akin to drinking ice-cold water on a hot day. But he quickly remembered that Guo Wentao was the eldest son of the Guo family and this was their territory. "An An, don't be impulsive!" he called out.

An Shuting ignored him, delivering a kick to Guo Wentao. "Brother Yue, keep an eye on him. I'll help him loosen up a bit so he remembers not to act like a dog instead of a decent person." Without waiting for Sun Yuebai's response, he dragged Guo Wentao behind the lush grape trellis.

For the first time, Sun Yuebai felt someone protect him unconditionally. Though he wanted to intervene, he remained silent, leaning against a stone pillar with a complicated expression.

The leaves on the grape trellis rustled, occasionally interrupted by muffled groans and the sound of flesh colliding. After what felt like an eternity, silence finally fell.

An Shuting emerged with his sleeves rolled up. "Let's go back," he said, pulling Sun Yuebai's arm and leading him toward the door. Sun Yuebai straightened, instinctively glancing toward the corner, but An Shuting blocked his view.

"Come on, we need to hurry. It won't be good if someone finds us," An Shuting urged. Sun Yuebai felt himself being pulled along, unaware of the term "boyfriend power." At that moment, An Shuting seemed particularly impressive, and Sun Yuebai found comfort in his presence.

An Shuting was still furious, indifferent to the chaos he might leave behind in the Guo household. Despite his anger, he was in a surprisingly good mood, munching on candied haws. "Brother Yue, your skills aren't that great. I'll have to teach you a few more moves later."

Sun Yuebai recalled An Shuting's decisive resignation from his position. "Aren't you going to ask me why I had a conflict with him?"

An Shuting snapped back to attention. "So, you two have a grudge against each other? What happened that led to this fight?" He knew that the quarrel between Guo Wentao and Sun Yuebai shouldn't have occurred yet; their fallout was supposed to happen after the Liyuanchun event.

Sun Yuebai glanced at him, his tone calm but revealing his frustration. "He thinks I seduced his friend's brother, causing the brother to separate from his wife and children."

"That's quite a deep grudge. That bastard deserved what he got. But what kind of person is this friend's brother? He sounds like an irresponsible scumbag who shifts blame," An Shuting fumed. "He's neglecting his family while being a playboy. Why would he care about Sun Yuebai?"

An Shuting imagined the situation back then, and his anger bubbled up again.

Seeing An Shuting turn into a lit firecracker, Sun Yuebai hugged his waist. "Don't be angry. It's just rumors. I've seen plenty of them. I don't like those dirty men. I've always kept my virginity for you, An An."

"I... I'm trying to talk to you about something serious!" An Shuting's frustration was interrupted by Sun Yuebai's playful hands wandering through his clothes.

Sun Yuebai laughed, "I'm being serious!"

An Shuting pursed his lips, reluctant to continue the conversation. He felt a pang of sympathy for Sun Yuebai, who remained cheerful despite the teasing. Usually, he would shy away from such jokes, but today, he couldn't help but admire Sun Yuebai's calm demeanor and resilient spirit, honed through countless humiliations and injustices.

Sun Yuebai's life often felt shrouded in dark clouds. He was like a stubborn stone-gray yet unyielding, unafraid of the storm, and unwilling to conform. People stood by, judging him from a distance, dismissing his efforts as futile. Yet Sun Yuebai lived with more clarity than many, though his bad luck and the people around him left much to be desired.

An Shuting found himself thinking of names that echoed in his mind: Su Mei, Guo Wentao, and Li Banzhu.

Turning to Sun Yuebai, he spoke earnestly, "Brother Yue, do you believe it? You were a kind person in your previous life. Anyone who hurts you won't have a good ending."

"Yeah, I know," Sun Yuebai replied dismissively.

He couldn't fully relate to An Shuting's regret and sorrow. As of today, Sun Yuebai had achieved fame and wealth, not to mention a young, strong lover who seemed perfect in every way. Even a deity wouldn't trade their life for his.

At that moment, all he could think about was An Shuting's slim waist. He could feel the strong muscles beneath his clothes and wondered how powerful he must look while working.

An Shuting was lost in his thoughts when Sun Yuebai's hand slipped beneath his clothing, brushing against his abdominal muscles.

His expression gradually froze, until all traces of emotion disappeared. He caught Sun Yuebai's wandering hand before it could move higher, warning him, "It's broad daylight, and we're still on the road..."
