The next couple weeks go by with little to no signs of things heating up. I know Richter said Josef would take his time but this seems like quite a bit of time to 'wear us down'.

By now Lucifer and Lilith are counseling me on being a mother and about childbirth every morning. Lucifer seemed nervous when Lilith brought it up, but apparently that was just because she was going to have him share that experience this time.

"This really seems like a lot."

"It can be overwhelming at times, but it is more than worth it every day you have them by your side."

Just then Al and Richter burst into the room looking out of breath.

"Are you two okay?"

Al nods but Richter disagrees.

"No we're not! Tell me more about the messenger in your dream right now! Al apparently met a friend of his and this is starting to smell of bullshit!"

I look at the two of them confused, "What do you mean?"

Richter takes a deep breath and calms down.

"So Alastor here got visited in his dreams just like you by a 'friend of the messenger' which is already suspicious, and then the bastard tries to get info out of him before spouting some shit which leads to the 'messenger' also contacting him and-!"

He stops to catch his breath, "Just run by me again everything that happened in your dream."

I start going through everything that I could remember. After I get about halfway through he seems to catch something.

"what was that last bit?"

" 'I am no one, but also some one. I only have an ending and no beginning. I am the light for shadows to hide in' ?"

Instantly he looks like he just realized something that he can't believe he missed.

"That fucking bastard! From now on ignore whatever shit you hear from him or his 'partners'."

"Why?"

"It's still fucking Josef! I was wondering who the fuck would have helped us that we don't know about yet. It just made no sense that after two battles and having a proper peace and cooperation with Heaven that supporters would still hide themselves, but now it all makes sense. He was just spouting nonsense to fuck with us this whole time. He saw that we weren't really being affected by his visions as much as he wanted us to so he decided to try and influence how we would react!"

Richter seemed confident in what he was saying, but I couldn't see the connection between the two people.

"How do you know it's Josef?"

"The bastard would mock people all the time. One time some poor dumbass insulted him so he decided to see how many bones can be surgically removed without the subject dying. The dumbass started shouting that he wouldn't get away with this, that it would all come to light some day. Josef then said, 'I am your only 'light', but I'm sure you know that I hide shadows all the same.' essentially saying that he would never be convicted because all the shit he was doing to us was separated from him through three fucking aliases! Do you know how fucking ridiculous that is?!"

"...So..?"

"Just-I don't even know anymore! I let myself hope that we might have some ally that might be able to help but I should have known better. Just don't trust any visions or dreams from now on, consider everything hostile until proven otherwise."

So in other words nothing has changed? Except now we don't have to worry about whatever nonsense that riddle was. Now that i think about it I don't know why I believed it in the first place. I should have thought it was odd, especially since we know that our enemies can mess with our heads when we're awake so why wouldn't they be able to when we are asleep?
