CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

Ellana's POV

Jacob opened the door to the small bedroom across from his, my right arm draped over his neck, and my left arm draped over Nick's.

They carried me inside the room and over to the double bed, they turned me around so I could sit down easily, but instead, they watched in horror as I plopped down without a care in the world.

"Jesus Ellie, it's only been a week, at least try to take it easy" Nick spoke with worry written all over his face. I gave them both a sheepish grin "I'm not some delicate little flower, boys. I'm fine".

I attempted to lie down on the bed and winced from the pain in my stomach. "Oh yeah you're just peachy, aren't ya?" Jacob stood with his arms crossed.

Nick chuckled at Jacob's words, it was nice to see they were getting along. "I'm gonna head out, okay? Do you need anything?" Nick placed a comforting hand on my shoulder.

I shook my head and tried to pull myself up from the bed to give him a hug, but the wound in my stomach wouldn't allow me to do so, instead Nick leant down on the bed and carefully hugged me "if you need anything at all, don't hesitate to call me or Kim, you got that partner?"

I nodded and gave him a weak smile. Nick turned and held his hand out for Jacob to shake, which he did. He gave us both a wave before he disappeared into the hall.

Jacob closed the door and sat down on an armchair that was placed in the corner "alright, your little buddy is gone, so how do you really feel?" He raised an eyebrow at me.

"Jacob, I am fine! Please believe me!" I lied, I was in fact, not fine. It took everything in me to hide the excruciating pain in my stomach, every time I took a breath it felt like that day all over again.

~~~ A WEEK AGO ~~~

Jacob's POV

I had just grabbed a glass of water when I heard shouting from in front of The Center, it sounded like John.

"JACOB! Get out here Jacob!" I couldn't tell if he was angry, or injured, either way I set the glass down and hurried to the front of the building.

When I got outside I saw John standing next to the rear of his car with the trunk open. "What's going on?" I questioned The Baptist.

John reached into the trunk of the car and picked up a body before throwing it onto the ground "who the fuck is she?" He said with anger, I hadn't noticed until now but John was covered in blood, thankfully it didn't appear to be his.

I walked closer and squatted down, to closer examine the corpse before me. "Her name is Carey, she's one of my trusted chosen. Who did this to her John?" I stood up and stared into my brothers eyes, I was angry that someone would butcher one of my people.

My brother looked at me with confusion "she's one of your trusted? So then tell me dear brother, what reason would she have to try and murder Sgt. Moore?" My eyes widened in shock at my brothers words.

"What are talking about? Where is Ellana?" I wanted answers now. "She's at The WhiteTail Health Center Jacob, I found her half dead at her home, with no one around but her" he said pointing at the body. "So I'll ask again, why is one of YOUR trusted, trying to murder Ellana?" he raised his voice angrily.

"Is she okay?" I ignored his question, I simply wanted to know if Ellana was alright. John ignored me and asked "Jacob, tell me, did you give her the order?" I couldn't believe he was actually accusing me of this.

"No, you tell me! is Ellana alright?" I fully shouted at him and took a step forward. "I don't know!" He shouted and pushed me causing me to take a step back "I truly don't know! She is in surgery right now and she might die, hell she may already be dead!".
