A/N some emotional thing's happen in this one.
Suzune sat at the edge of their bed, her hands clasped tightly in her lap. The soft glow of the bedroom lamp cast long shadows on the walls, but her gaze was fixed downward, her shoulders heavy with a quiet frustration she was struggling to keep inside.
Kiyotaka stood beside her, his posture as calm and composed as ever. The only sign of his concern was the subtle way his hand rested gently on her shoulder, a gesture of silent reassurance.
"It's alright," he said softly, his voice even and steady. "We've been through worse, haven't we?"
Suzune exhaled slowly, her lips forming a thin smile as she glanced up at him. "I know," she murmured. "It's just... I wanted it so badly."
"You're not the only one," Kiyotaka replied, his hand shifting to take hers. He held it with a firmness that carried his unspoken resolve. "This isn't the end of the road. We'll try again, in our own time."
Suzune nodded, leaning her head against his shoulder. His steady presence grounded her, as it always did. Over the years, she'd learned that while Kiyotaka's emotions rarely showed on his face, they were always present in his actions. And now, in this moment of quiet vulnerability, his support meant everything.
"I know we will," she whispered. "And I'll be ready when the time comes."
For a few moments, they sat there in silence, the room filled with the gentle rhythm of their breathing. Suzune closed her eyes, letting herself sink into the comfort of his presence.
A year passed, and life moved forward in its steady rhythm. Kiyotaka and Suzune had shifted their focus back to their family, their home alive with the laughter and chaos of their children and grandchildren. The disappointment of their failed attempts to conceive had faded, though a quiet hope still lingered in Suzune's heart.
On a crisp spring afternoon, they received an unexpected message from their son Kiyo and his girlfriend Ichika, requesting to meet them at Advanced Nurturing High School. Curious and slightly amused by the formality of the invitation, Kiyotaka and Suzune made their way to the campus.
Waiting outside the teacher's office, they found Kiyo and Ichika standing side by side. Ichika looked nervous, her hands fidgeting with the hem of her blazer, while Kiyo, true to his father's nature, appeared perfectly composed.
"What's this about?" Kiyotaka asked as they approached, his sharp gaze flickering between the two.
Ichika took a deep breath, her cheeks flushing as she stepped forward. "We... we wanted to tell you something important," she began, her voice trembling slightly.
Kiyo reached out and took her hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze.
"I'm pregnant," Ichika said, the words tumbling out in a rush. She glanced nervously at Suzune and Kiyotaka, her face a mix of fear and excitement.
For a moment, silence hung in the air. Suzune's eyes widened, and Kiyotaka raised an eyebrow, his expression unreadable.
Then, to Ichika's relief, Suzune's lips curled into a warm smile. "Congratulations," she said, her tone genuine.
Ichika's shoulders sagged with relief, and Kiyo's grip on her hand tightened slightly in quiet appreciation.
"You'll have a lot to prepare for," Kiyotaka said, his tone matter-of-fact but not unkind. "But you'll manage."
Ichika blinked, as though she hadn't expected such a calm response. "Thank you," she said softly, her voice barely above a whisper.
Suzune stepped forward, placing a gentle hand on Ichika's shoulder. "You'll be a wonderful mother," she said with quiet conviction. "And we'll be here for you, every step of the way."
