Chapter XVI
Jason sighed as he walked pass the PIPER sticky notes for the fifth time that day. Why hadn't she noticed them? She was the only one who would.
He groaned as he made his way back to the janitors closet. He silently pouted as he stuck his head back into the room.
Neville, "Anything?"
"Nothing."
Jason sat across from Josh, who looked up from his precious board, "I cannot predict human action, if that's what you want. There's no way of guessing when Piper may reply."
Jason growled, "I just don't understand why she hasn't yet. Piper will go anywhere, especially if there's some kind of good feeling in it. The nice sticky notes should have pulled her in, and she would have noticed ours."
Cato laughed, "As if! Has she ever been in an arena, forced to kill people, with the only reason being for survival?"
"How does that even relate to what we're talking about?"
Carter smirked, "Have you ever faced a giant snake?"
Cato stared at the ground. Neville laughed, "Actually, I've faced a man who could control a giant snake!"
Jason sighed and stepped out of the closet. There was no point wasting time listening to the others complain about their lives and who did what. Nobody even realized that they didn't really do it. Jason had never done anything heroic himself. Rick Riordan made him do it.
He sat down in front of the sticky notes; still no change.
Jason had always been looked at as a hero. According to Riordan, he was the leader of an entire Roman Legion because he was a hero and had earned it. But he'd never done anything to deserve the praise. He'd only done what he'd been written to do.
Even his friendships were lies. He never really gotten to know Leo or Piper or anyone else. The story was the only reason Piper was his girlfriend, the only reason Leo was his best friend, and the only reason any of them knew each other.
Jason stood and look at the sticky notes across the hall. "You are awesome." "You are amazing." Even if they were true, they didn't make him anything of a hero.
He turned back towards his notes and gasped. There were new orange sticky notes covering his green ones.
And they spelled out JASON.
Chapter XVII
Rachel had to sprint to keep up with Pernelle as she raced down the hall. Glimmer was right behind her, barely even trying to keep up. Luna and Daphne had given up ages ago and were slowly following the dirty footprints they left behind.
They turned the corner and ran down the 800 hall. Rachel was beginning to worry, Does Pernelle know where she's going?
Doubt disappeared when Pernelle slowed and eventually stopped in front of the last room on the hall; 822.
Pernelle lowered her voice, "This is Mr. Dayes's classroom. He's a math teacher but only teaches on an accelerated level. Knowing Rachel's friends, at least one of them is going to have a host in one of his classes."
Rachel nodded, "That sounds exactly like a class for half of 'em."
Glimmer snorted, "Definitely."
The two had finally caught up with them. Luna spoke, "So we're putting it in here."
They nodded and turned towards the door. Pernelle opened it a crack; just enough to see inside. She leaned back, "He's in there."
Rachel looked in. She immediately saw the tall teacher and almost had a heart-attack when he stood and grabbed the iPad on the desk, walking towards the door. She whispered, "Go, go, go. To the wall."
Just as they reached the other side of the hall, Mr. Dayes stepped out of his classroom and began walking the way they'd come from. Another teacher had stepped out of her classroom, 809, and turned when he called out, "Hey, Cibo, we've got a meeting, right?"
Ms. Cibo replied, "Yeah. We're meeting Welando in the library. He said it was something about the situation with the fountains."
When they turned the corner onto another hallway, Rachel breathed a sigh of relief. They returned to Mr. Dayes's room.
Pernelle, "Put the pencil under one of the desks. We'll just have to hope we pick the right one."
Rachel placed the message under a desk in the third row and stood up, "We should get out of here. Maybe go see what that meeting's about."
Glimmer nodded, "It's a good idea. The fountain thing might be important."
Luna led the way this time as she knew where the library was. When they got closer, they could hear a mans voice, probably Mr. Welando's. They leaned against the door and heard the last ten words of his speech, "I'm afraid we're forced to send the kids home early."
Chapter XVIII
Demeter frowned as she scanned the courtyard, searching for a sign of her daughter. She held her hand to the bark of the tree, "Are you sure she's here?"
The tree replied, It's definitely her.
Demeter thought for a moment, oblivious to the sigh the tree seemed to make, "Rue, give me the nail polish."
Rue stepped over and handed her the small, pink bottle. It was inscribed with a small, barely readable signature; apparently Effie Trinket's.
Tsagaglalal pondered, "What are you gonna do with it? You know Persephone is here. We need something to attract her, not Effie."
Demeter laughed, "If I know my daughter, she's definitely attached to the same host as Effie Trinket."
She placed the small bottle on the bench in front of her and unscrewed the cap, "Sabina, the message for Persephone?"
Sabina reached into her pocket and pulled out the small plastic test tube. She handed it to Demeter, who then placed it in the bottle. She screwed the cap shut.
"That should work."
Katie Bell smiled, "So what do we do now?"
Demeter held her hand to the tree again, "Tell Persephone to go to the bench and find the nail polish."
Rue frowned, "Is the tree able to tell her if she doesn't have physical contact with it."
Demeter laughed, "We're nature goddesses. We can do whatever we want."
Tsagaglalal chuckled, "So what now?"
Demeter sat with the group, "Now... We wait."
