Chapter XL
Jason walked back to the sticky notes. Piper had replied over top of TANNER with JORDAN.
He sprinted back to the group to get the supplies to reply. Josh, however, would not let him leave immediately.
"Jordan. There are four Jordan's in this school. That's narrowed it down to 0.4% of the school. It's a great specification."
Jason rolled his eyes, "Okay, great, thank you so much for your intellectual insight."
Josh frowned as he walked away, "Sarcasm. Pointless in my book."
Then, of course, Jason was stopped by Neville, who demanded to come along to put up Tanner's last name. Jason couldn't just say no.
Lugging Neville along turned out to be more of a challenge than first perceived. Even though he'd been in the school for a day and had plenty of chances to go by himself, Neville forced Jason to stop at every single plant to admire its "natural beauty" and "normalcy".
When Neville stopped for the 20th time on the trip, Jason could no longer take it, "Neville why don't you go along on your own while I put up the sticky notes?" Neville, of course, found this to be a great idea and Jason was left wishing he'd mentioned it earlier.
When he reached the sticky notes, he first placed a blank note over each of the JORDAN ones. Then he spelled out Tanner's last name: F-A-N-C-I-E.
As he finished, he marveled at his handy work and slipped the tools into his pocket. He'd finished.
As he walked away from the notes and back to the group, he could do nothing but pray that she'd reply before the end of the day and that no one else had noticed their brief conversations.
Chapter XLI
As Nevada walked out of her home room, she noticed Rachel and the others running through the crowd. They dodged as many students as they could, but couldn't avoid them all and were soon being walked through every couple of seconds. Nevada rolled her eyes, they should have known better than to try to go through a hallway filled with 300 teenagers. She continued on to her next class.
Rachel was sick and tired of people walking through her, so she ducked into the classroom immediately. The others followed suit and checked under the desk in the third row. The pencil had no reply in it, so they replaced it with their new message, and when the hallways were clear, they stepped out of the classroom.
Daphne shivered, "I'm never doing that again. I don't care what the circumstances are. That was extremely uncomfortable."
Glimmer laughed, "And I thought tracker-jackers were the worst thing I'd ever experience..."
Pernelle frowned, "That was worse than tracker-jackers?"
Glimmer shrugged, "Not really. But you get the idea."
Luna sighed, "Yeah we get it. You're all bloody disturbed. Can we move on now?"
Rachel pointed towards the 700 hall, "Lets follow the halls and see if anything stands out."
After walking through the halls for fifteen minutes, they hadn't found anything. Not wanting to give up, Rachel lead the group into the cafeteria for a look.
Two minutes later, Luna thought she saw a glint from underneath the vending machine. However, after a minute of thought, she dismissed it as a wrackspurt and moved on, not mentioning it to the others.
Rachel was ready to give up; they'd searched the room for ten minutes and had found nothing to lead to her friends. Maybe it was fate, maybe it was a god, but something made Rachel look up. Although it was only a flash, Rachel couldn't deny what she'd read on that PowerPoint playing on the TV.

Chapter XLII
Ida was in Mr. Beirdia's 3rd period English class when Demeter whispered, "Get the pass. We need to go now."
Ida scribbled a note on her paper:
Wait until he gives us the worksheet. Then I can go.
Mr. Beirdia talked for another ten minutes before handing out the worksheet on commas. Demeter was beginning to question the complexity of Ida's classes as she stood up and got a pass to leave the room. As she walked out she rounded on Demeter, "I'M NOT JUST GONNA GET A PASS IN THE MIDDLE OF HIS LECTURE! ARE YOU CRAZY? HE'D GIVE ME A REFERRAL!"
Demeter sighed, "Yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever, we're already ten minutes late. Come on."
Ida and the other characters followed Demeter through the hall. Ida decided to ask Rue the question that had bothered her for ages, "So... When you die in books. How does that work?"
Rue smiled, "Basically, you just die the way anyone in this realm would, then you're sent to a specific part of your realm known as the Death Barricade. Only the dead can enter, unless you're entering for a visitation day, and they can't come back out unless they play a part as a ghost or something. There's also the Tartarus Barricade, which is for the antagonists. Once you're in, there's literally no way out, and nobody can come in to help you. That's why none of us expected Snow to come back. It was supposed to be impossible."
Ida frowned, "So would that basically be like heaven and hell."
Rue laughed, "Yeah, pretty much."
They'd reached the end of the hall and were about to enter the courtyard. Ida took a deep breath and opened the door.
Stepping in, Ida's eyes widened at the sight of Persephone's host. In half of a second, Ida took in her light brown skin, dark brown eyes, dark brown hair in a bun, and neon jacket. Ida was speechless, and when she finally found her voice, she gasped, "Cassidy?"
