Chapter I
Annabeth woke up in the middle of a Geometry class.
She was surprised she hadn't been notice yet. She was sitting right in the middle of the room. She stared at the girl to her right. Blonde, glasses, thirteen or fourteen years old, obviously one of the best in the class. Annabeth laughed at the thought, she's just like me. She quietly stepped out of the classroom and into the hallway.
Annabeth immediately knew where she was. Some school on Marriot Mouth Island. She'd seen pictures on a laptop. Slowly, she crept down the hall. 822, 820, 818, 816... Lockers were covered in little, inspirational sticky-note messages like "Your hair looks nice" and "You are awesome".
814, 812, 810... The room numbers counted down as she continued along the hallway. A short student walked out of classroom 808.
Annabeth called out, "Excuse me! Could you please tell me where I am?"
He didn't seem to notice. She repeated herself. Nothing. "Stop!" She yelled as he continued straight towards her.
He didn't stop. Annabeth put her hands up, defensively, as the boy walked straight thorough her.
Shocked, Annabeth slowly continued down the hallway. I'm a ghost, she thought, the pod only sent my soul to the real world. My body must still be in the book. The classrooms continued to count down, 806, 804, 802, 800.
She'd reached the end of the hallway. Turning right, she could see younger students in room 507, obviously a computer lab. The only computer Annabeth ever used was Daedalus' laptop, and she'd lost it falling into Tartarus. She felt a strong loathing of the regular kids in that computer lab. They were everything she'd ever wanted to be.
Annabeth continued on, refusing to think about how much better her life would have been had she been born as a real person rather than a fictional character. A figure stepped out from behind. Annabeth heard the sound of a bow. With lightning-fast reflexes her hand flew up and caught the arrow that had been shot at her head.
She turned around, taking in the shooter's black, fishtail braid and silver bow. Annabeth lifted the arrow in defense. Rule One from Chiron's Fight Lessons: Fight and capture is main priority.
Annabeth charged. The girl was used to shooting and killing her prey from a distance. Annabeth soon overpowered her. She threw the girl to the floor and put the arrow to her throat.
Annabeth now had a closer view of the girl's face. Her olive eyes stared with a familiar sense of confidence. Annabeth gasped with recognition.
"Katniss?"
Chapter II
Hazel awoke. She immediately laughed at the girl sitting next to her; a large brunette asking for help from a geeky blonde who reminded her of Annabeth.
Hazel stepped out of the Geometry class, immediately greeted by the characters who had to escape their books as well.
First, she saw Nymphadora Tonks, an important character from the Harry Potter series. Her pink hair was cut in an almost boyish fashion, and her robes flowed down to her ankles, matching the standard style of an advanced witch.
Next, she noticed Clove, a temporary antagonist from the Hunger Games, and Cleo, a scribe from the Kane Chronicles. The girls were getting along surprisingly well for a librarian and a knife master.
Finally, Hazel turned to Lucy and Angel. They were both young and overly powerful, which was probably the spark of their immediate friendship. Lucy was the main character of the Chronicles of Narnia, and was crowned the queen before she stumbled across the doorway back to her own land. Angel was the youngest member of the flock in the Maximum Ride series, and also the most skilled. Not only could she breathe underwater, but also read and manipulate minds.
The five fictional characters were sitting in a circle in the middle of the hallway when Hazel arrived. Tonks was the first to notice and took out her wand defensively. When she saw Hazel's face, she relaxed, "Hazel? Another one?"
"What's going on? My book was attacked while the characters were on vacation. Kronos and Gaea were going to destroy the story by killing us, but Chiron got us to our escape pods."
Clove spoke, "Join the ------- club." She carelessly spat the curse.
Angel continued, "It has to be the Book Attacks. Our six books have been forced to send their main characters to the real world. There are probably more. The fictional community rests in our hands."
Hazel asked, "How is it that all of the attacks were put in motion around the same time?
Tonks explained, "It was planned. Everyone in the community knows each other. The antagonists planned to attack to books with each other as back up to regain their stories."
Clove, "The big problem is that if they regain their stories, they'll become greedy and want to take over the outside world. They'll escape their books and use their hosts to conquer the world."
Hazel coughed, "Why aren't you with them?"
Clove laughed, " 'Cause I like being dead. It's relaxing."
"So how are we going to stop them?"
Lucy grinned, "I have an idea."
Chapter III
Thalia was reluctant to leave the Hunters of Artemis. She was a senior hunter, and could rake care of herself. When the hunters told her of the rising threat, she was forced into the pod and launched to the outside world.
When she awoke, she took in what she assumed was her host. Blonde, blue glasses, crazy shoes, etc. Perfect match.
In the eyes of Artemis, Thalia was an excellent hunter, and it didn't take long for her to pick up a trail on the other characters attached to her host. She travelled through three different hallways and into the gym where a group of seventh graders were playing basketball in P.E.
Immediately, Thalia spotted the group on the bleachers. There were four of them, each sitting together and discussing how terrible the seventh graders were at running. Ginny Weasley, the future wife of Harry Potter, Foxface, the girl from District 5 who was the next to last to die in the first Hunger Games, Ella Martinez, the human sister of the genetically mutated Maximum Ride, and Mrs. Jones, the assistant of Alan Blunt, head of MI6. Again, perfect match.
Ginny was the first to notice Thalia, "Another one?!"
Thalia smiled, "Nice to see you too... I thought I was gonna be lonely. What're you all doing here?"
Ginny frowned, "Voldemort."
Foxface, "Snow."
Ella, "Jeb."
Ms. Jones, "Julia and Razim."
Thalia shrugged, "Pretty straightforward answers. Somehow Kronos dug himself a hole out of Tartarus."
"Fun..." Ella laughed.
"Anyways," Ginny said, "Since theres so many of us, I'm guessing we're in a full out book war."
"Gee, I haven't noticed." Thalia retorted.
Ella continued, "There could be even more. There's no way to know."
Thalia frowned, "So what are we going to do?"
Ginny grinned, "Why, we're gonna have some fun, of course."
