Chapter XLVI
Carson walked into Mr. Dayes's classroom for homework help after school with Leo and the others following silently behind. Mr. Dayes stood up from his desk just as Carson walked in, "You're welcome to stay in here, but I've got a meeting. Just make sure the door's locked when you leave."
"No problem, Mr. Dayes!" With that, the teacher left and Carson was alone with Leo and his group.
Leo spoke, "Do you have the thing you found?"
Carson replied, "Yeah. In here." He reached into his book-bag and pulled out a single mechanical pencil, "Check out the side."
Leo took the pencil and read the message written in red sharpie: "'Unerase. -R.E.D.' Who's R.E.D.?"
Carson, "That stumped me, too, until I remembered a character from Percy Jackson." He smiled, "Rachel Elizabeth Dare. R.E.D."
Leo smiled, "And I think I know what unerase means." He turned the pencil over so that he was looking at the eraser. He messed with it until it came off, and out fell a piece of paper.
Haymitch laughed, "Good job, kid."
Carson picked up the paper and read aloud:
Dear whomever it may concern,
I am a host of five Book Attack refugees; Rachel Elizabeth Dare, Luna Lovegood, Glimmer, Pernelle Flamel, and Daphne Grimm. I hope that you understand what I'm talking about, and if you don't, you can stop reading now and move on with your life, untouched.
My characters need to go home, but before they can do that, they must find each other. Please leave a reply message in my pencil with your refugee('s) name(s) present to help them find their way.
Sincerely,
Nevada Springs
A voice came from behind them, "I'm guessing you know what I'm talking about since you read the whole letter. Especially aloud."
Leo whirled around and took in the girl's bright blonde hair and blue eyes before Carson spoke, "Nevada."
Nevada smiled, "Carson."
The classroom glitched for a minute or two until Leo could see the five figures standing behind Nevada, and they could see the four standing behind Carson.
Leo smiled, "Hey Rachel."
Rachel laughed, her bright red hair falling naturally behind her ears, "Hey Leo."
Chapter XLVII
Jordan walked behind Piper and Prim as they led the way down the 600 hall. She turned to Cho, "So. What's all this about?"
Cho explained, "Piper's been getting in contact with her boyfriend, Jason, and we're going to see if he's left us his host's last name yet."
Jordan frowned, "Great." She sped up so that she was next to Piper, "So. Jason."
Piper laughed, "We've been in contact through the sticky-notes thing in the 600 hall. What's the story behind those things, anyways?"
Jordan chuckled, "Ms. Cibo's classes do them. They're supposed to be uplifting things to make people's days, but a lot of them are just plain weird now. The 600 hall's the only hall with the good ones."
Piper smiled, "Do you know anybody who's in the class that does the ones on this hall."
Jordan answered as they walked up to the sticky-notes, "My friends Maddie, McKenna, Ali, Carson, and Tanner..." She paused, staring at the notes, "Fancie?"
Piper frowned, "Yeah."
"Tanner Fancie?"
Prim's eyes widened, "Yeah. How'd you know?"
Jordan began racing back down the hall, the others racing behind, "I can still catch him."
Nudge yelled after her, "Catch who?!"
Jordan, "Tanner!"
Piper caught up with Jordan, "You know him?"
"Yeah. He's one of my closest friends."
Jordan ran outside, the characters glitching and then running again to catch up with her, "Tanner!"
A tall, blonde kid standing on the edge of the car line turned, "Jordan?" He stepped off the path and met Jordan by a palm tree in the yard, "What's up?"
Jordan, out of breath, answered, "It's me. Piper."
Tanner frowned, "What're you talking abo - wait. Jordan."
The environment glitched and within the minute, a blonde kid, gladius at his side, was standing in front of Piper.
"Jason!"
"Piper!" She ran up to Jason and pulled him into a tight hug. When she pulled away, it was only to give him a soft kiss on the cheek.
Jordan looked at Tanner and laughed, "I'm not kissin' ya."
Chapter XLVIII
Gaea smiled. They'd gotten through the day without anyone noticing the difference in Ellen or Gary. It was actually quite an accomplishment.
Coin spoke, "We need to begin looking for suitable hosts for the refugees. They're probably already began finding each other."
The White Witch continued, "The more they find each other, the more likely it is that they will defeat us."
Gaea sighed, "Kronos said he had a plan. If he fails, I will let you all try yourselves. Until that time, we are relying on his instincts, and his alone."
As she spoke, Kronos and the men returned to the group.
Razim smirked, "I think you're gonna like this."
Kronos handed Gaea a large, manila folder. She opened it and skimmed the contents.
She grinned, "Perfect."
