In the evening, as the two sat side by side under the warm light in the living room, Charlotte hesitantly said:
· "Engfa, I know our life has been very happy, but... have you ever thought about adopting a child?"
Engfa smiled, her gaze soft as she looked at the one she loved.
· "Actually, I have thought about it. I'd love to have a complete family with you, Charlotte. We can give a child a home, the love they deserve."
Charlotte held Engfa's hand tightly, a smile forming on her lips as she imagined a small home filled with children's laughter. "I want us to be good parents, to love and protect our child, no matter the challenges."
One early summer day, they visited an orphanage in the northern mountains, where they had first met. The orphanage was home to children who had lost their parents in the war, a place where pain and hope mingled in every young gaze. Engfa and Charlotte couldn't hold back their emotions as they looked into those innocent eyes.
Among the children was a little girl with big, dark eyes and a sad face, standing quietly by the window. Charlotte looked at her, feeling her heart ache as something familiar and profound struck her. She whispered to Engfa:
· "Engfa, do you see her? She... she's so sweet, she looks a lot like you."
Engfa nodded; her gaze had been fixed on the girl for a while. They both walked over carefully, afraid of frightening her. As they approached, the little girl looked up at them, her eyes shy but filled with hope.
· "Hello, sweetheart, what's your name?" Engfa gently asked.
The little girl shyly replied:
· "My name is Adin."
Charlotte smiled, kneeling down to be at her level and softly said:
"Adin, we could become your family, if you'd like. You'd have a home, where two people would always love you."
Adin looked at both of them, her eyes welling up, but a small smile appeared on her face. She stepped closer to Charlotte and Engfa, her tiny hands reaching out to hold theirs, and she whispered:
· "I... I want a family too."
Engfa and Charlotte's lives became filled with laughter from the day they brought Adin home, later legally adopting her and renaming her Charlfa Wahara. They poured all their love and care into her, hoping to make up for the hardships she had endured. Each morning, Charlotte would wake up early to prepare breakfast for the family, while Engfa took Charlfa for walks in the garden, sharing funny childhood stories.
One morning, as Engfa and Charlotte sat at the breakfast table with Charlfa, Charlotte asked:
· "Charlfa, do you like living here? Is there anything you want to tell us?"
Charlfa looked up at them, her eyes shining with a happiness she had never known before.
· "I'm very happy to have both of you with me. I used to feel lonely, but not anymore."
Engfa gently patted Charlfa's head, smiling warmly:
· "We'll always be here with you, Charlfa. You'll always have a home."
Together, Charlotte and Engfa took Charlfa on new adventures. They took her to the beach on weekends, where Charlfa touched the waves for the first time. She laughed gleefully as the water reached her feet, squealing with joy as small waves splashed against her.
· "I've never seen the ocean before; it's so beautiful!" Charlfa exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with joy.
Charlotte smiled at her.
