Engfa's father also received news of her being injured and assassinated on the way. He had already imagined the sequence of events when Charlotte informed him about the fake coded message she sent to the Japanese during the final battle.
He had assigned someone to protect Charlotte - Tina, a special operative from the special forces. Tina didn't always appear next to Charlotte, but she was always there, closely monitoring her every move and protecting her at all times.
Early in the morning in Bangkok, soft sunlight illuminated the buildings, shining through the streets that had somewhat become quiet after the brutal months of war. The capital seemed to still bear traces of conflict, but a certain peace lingered in the air, like a whisper of hope after the storm.
The sound of birds chirping echoed between the trees, and a gentle breeze brought with it the fresh breath of a new day. In the hospital room, Charlotte had just woken up from a short nap. The light outside streamed in through the window, highlighting her face, which still bore traces of fatigue. Engfa lay there, on the hospital bed, her breathing steady but not fully awake yet.
Charlotte sat beside her, her eyes filled with love and worry as she tenderly cared for the one she loved. She gently adjusted the blanket and checked Engfa's health monitoring equipment. Her mind seemed unable to escape thoughts about the dangers that had occurred, as well as those that lay ahead.
Tina entered the room with a breakfast tray and a bag of fruit. She walked over to Charlotte and gently placed the items she had just bought on the table. In her hand, Tina also held a bouquet of white roses—the flowers Charlotte had asked her to buy earlier.
“Charlotte, here’s the breakfast and the flowers you requested,” Tina said as she set everything down.
“Engfa seems to be doing better, but she still needs more time.”
Charlotte smiled tiredly but still maintained a gentle look in her eyes.
“Thank you, Tina. These white roses are for Engfa. I want her to see something beautiful when she wakes up.”
She ate breakfast while chatting with Tina about the current political situation. Both of them were keenly aware that, while the war may have temporarily subsided, the underlying conflicts and backdoor conspiracies had not yet ended.
“The politics now are much more complicated after the war,” Charlotte remarked.
“The upheaval and conspiracies are still there, especially from Japan and other underground forces.”
Tina nodded in agreement and gently inquired about Engfa’s health.
“Has Engfa shown any signs of waking up?”
“She’s slowly recovering but still needs time. I just hope she doesn't have to face any more dangers,” Charlotte replied, her voice weighed down with concern.
A little while later, Charlotte asked Tina to take care of Engfa in her absence tonight.
“I have to go out tonight. I’ll need you to stay here with Engfa, okay? I don’t want her to be alone.”
Tina looked at Charlotte with concern, knowing that going out in the current situation could be unsafe. But she didn’t ask more questions; she just nodded.
“I’ll stay and take care of her. You can count on me.”
Charlotte smiled gratefully, her heart filled with contemplation about the challenges she would face. The secrets she was holding, and the dangerous mission ahead, seemed to pull her deeper into a vortex of plots and schemes.
