PAST
The sun shone brightly in the sky, casting a harsh glare over everything it touched. A young man in his early twenties leaned against his sleek black Mercedes, a frown etched deeply on his face. His blonde hair was perfectly combed, accentuating his deliciously handsome features-sharp nose, chiseled jawline that could cut glass, and a fair complexion. Standing at an imposing 6'4", he looked every bit like a model ripped from the pages of a high-end fashion magazine.
His piercing gray eyes glared at the sun for its relentless brightness, beads of sweat forming on his forehead. He stood in front of an elite high school, waiting for someone. Dressed in a fitted white shirt and blue jeans, he exuded an effortless charm that drew the attention of many girls. They ogled him shamelessly, captivated by his striking appearance, but his stern expression kept them at bay.
Sean's heart was set on a girl with mesmerizing blue eyes and an hourglass figure. She was the epitome of high school popularity, and the swarm of admirers vying for her attention only fueled his irritation and made it challenging to approach her. Yet, Sean was nothing if not determined. He had a tenacity that bordered on obsession; when he wanted something, he pursued it with relentless determination, be it through fair means or foul.
He sighed in relief when he finally saw his sister walking out of the school.
"Hi, brother," Serena greeted, flashing him a smile. Sean returned her smile but his gaze quickly shifted to the girl beside her. Her blue eyes blinked at him innocently, a stark contrast to Serena's lively and confident demeanor. Despite sharing the same striking eyes, the two sisters couldn't be more different. Serena was lean and vivacious, while Penelope was curvier, exuding an endearing sweetness. Both were beautiful in their own unique ways.
Serena bit her lip nervously, and Sean braced himself for what was coming. He knew he wouldn't like it.
"Well, Sophie is busy with something, so can we drop Penelope at her home?" Serena asked, her puppy eyes in full effect. Sean crossed his arms over his chest and fixed his sister with a glare.
"And why would I do that? My job is to pick you up, not everyone else," Sean said, tilting his head.
"Oh, come on, her house is on the way. Let's just drop her," Serena pleaded.
Sean shook his head in refusal. "Look, what if I tell our parents that you left Penelope alone at school even though you could drop her home? Don't you think they'll be disappointed in you and might even question their upbringing?" Serena said sternly.
Sean sighed, knowing his sister had played her trump card. He had no choice but to agree. "Okay, fine. Let's go," he said, heading toward the driver's seat.
"Thanks," Penelope said softly. Hearing her voice, Sean stopped abruptly. This was the first time he was hearing her speak, and her voice was like a melody to his ears. It wasn't that he hadn't seen her before-after all, the Davis and Anderson families were friends, so he had watched Penelope grow up-but this was the first time he was having a direct interaction with her. He looked at her, nervously fiddling with her bag straps and staring at him with those innocent eyes. She seemed too pure for the harsh world, he thought.
He gave her a curt nod and settled inside the driver's seat. "You sit in the front seat. I'll take the back," Serena said, and before anyone could disagree, she hurriedly slipped into the back seat. Penelope sighed and sat in the front, biting her lower lip nervously. It was the first time she was in such close proximity to Sean.
Sean glanced at her for a few seconds before sighing in frustration. "Seatbelt, Penelope," he said. Penelope blinked at him innocently before fastening her seatbelt. Serena laughed at the awkward situation, and Penelope blushed profusely-it was the first time Sean had spoken her name. She had always harbored a crush on him.
