PENELOPE
"Having fun, little flower?"
His voice was smooth.
Polite.
Deadly.
Every instinct in my body screamed.
Run
Unfortunately-
The alcohol had already stolen my ability to do that.
And judging by the look in Sean Anderson's eyes
I wasn't leaving this club anytime soon.
"Why the hell weren't you picking up my calls?"
His voice cut through the music like a blade.
I flinched.
The anger in his tone instantly sobered me more than the scotch ever could.
"I... don't..." I stammered.
His grey eyes narrowed dangerously.
The dim club lights reflected in them, making them look almost silver.
"Are you drunk?"
I immediately shook my head.
A complete lie.
And judging by the look on his face, he knew it too.
"All men... are dogs..."
Sophie's slurred voice drifted beside us.
My eyes widened.
Oh God.
Not now.
Not in front of them.
Apparently, my sister had finally noticed we were no longer alone.
I followed her gaze and froze.
Standing beside Sean was Adrian.
His dark eyes immediately met mine before he lifted a hand and casually waved.
As if this was a normal social gathering and not the beginning of a disaster.
I offered him a weak smile.
Big mistake.
Sean's hand tightened around my waist.
Hard.
A hiss escaped my lips.
I looked up at him.
His jaw was clenched so tightly I thought his teeth might crack.
The storm in his eyes had only grown darker.
"You..."
Sophie's voice rose sharply.
She pointed directly at Adrian.
For the first time all evening, she looked genuinely awake.
She pushed herself off the stool.
Unfortunately, alcohol had other plans.
The second she stood, her balance disappeared.
Her body tilted sideways.
A gasp left my mouth.
But Adrian was already moving.
His hand shot out and grabbed her wrist before she could fall.
For a brief moment, they stood frozen.
His hand around hers.
Her body leaning against him.
