PENELOPE

I glanced at the clock resting on the corner of my desk and sighed.

Lunch time.

Which meant it was time for my very important lunch meeting.

It wasn't a business meeting.

Strangely, that only made me more nervous.

A client was easier to deal with than the man waiting for me.

I had given my word, and despite every instinct urging me to retreat, backing out wasn't an option anymore.

Closing my laptop with a soft click, I stood and walked into the attached restroom.

Cold water splashed against my wrists before I looked up at my reflection.

I smoothed down my outfit, taking a moment longer than necessary.

Today, I had chosen something softer.

A blush-pink tweed co-ord that looked elegant without trying too hard.

The cropped jacket hugged my waist perfectly, its delicate pearl buttons catching the light with every movement. Beneath it, a dramatic oversized white bow rested against my chest, adding an innocent charm that contrasted with the fitted silhouette. The matching high-waisted tweed mini skirt skimmed my thighs gracefully, giving the entire ensemble a refined Parisian elegance.

White pointed stilettos elongated my legs, while a structured white leather handbag with a gold chain rested neatly over my forearm. A pair of delicate pearl earrings, a slim bracelet, and a simple ring completed the look.

Soft pink lips.

Rosy cheeks.

Long black hair cascading smoothly down my back.

Feminine.

Graceful.

Exactly the version of myself I had abandoned three years ago.

I inhaled deeply before offering my reflection a small, reassuring smile

I inhaled deeply before offering my reflection a small, reassuring smile.

"You'll survive one lunch, Penelope."

Grabbing my handbag, I stepped out of my cabin.

The office bustled with its usual rhythm.

Employees hurried through the corridors with files tucked beneath their arms, phones ringing in distant cabins, keyboards clicking in perfect harmony.

As soon as I stepped outside, Arthur noticed me.

"Lunch?" he asked, slipping his hands into his pockets.

"Yes," I replied with a nod.

"Alone?"

His gaze briefly shifted toward Madeline's glass cabin.
