PENELOPE
As soon as we landed in Milan, I stepped out of the plane and was greeted by the sight of an array of luxury cars lined up, engines quietly humming, their glossy surfaces reflecting the fading light of the evening. I wasn't surprised. Sean Anderson, the richest man in the country, never traveled without making an impression. This level of grandeur was something I'd become accustomed to, even if it still felt surreal at times.
Without a word, Sean motioned toward one of the sleek black cars. The driver opened the door, and we slid into the plush leather seats. The door shut with a quiet thud, sealing us into a cocoon of luxury. As the car pulled away, a few others followed closely behind, no doubt for safety. My eyes drifted outside the window, taking in the beauty of Milan at dusk.
The city was mesmerizing. Narrow streets lined with historic buildings, each more charming than the last. The warm golden lights spilled out of cafés and boutiques, casting a glow on the cobblestone streets. The architecture here was different-old-world charm mixed with a modern, stylish edge. The kind of beauty you could only find in Italy. It felt alive, buzzing with a quiet energy, the city breathing in sync with its people. I couldn't help but stare, soaking in the magic of it all.
The drive seemed to pass in a blur, the city's rhythm pulling me in, but after about an hour, the car slowed to a stop in front of a grand Italian five-star hotel. The driver opened the door, and I stepped out, tilting my head up to take in the sight before me. The hotel was stunning, its facade bathed in soft lighting that highlighted its intricate architectural details-marble columns, arches, and large glass windows that hinted at the luxury inside.
As we walked through the grand entrance, I was immediately struck by the opulence of the hotel. The lobby was breathtaking. The floors were polished marble, smooth and gleaming under the soft lighting. Large chandeliers hung from the high ceilings, dripping with crystals that sparkled like diamonds. The walls were adorned with rich, textured wallpaper in deep gold and cream, giving the entire space a timeless elegance. Ornate mirrors lined the walls, reflecting the grandeur back at me, making the space feel even more expansive.
A massive floral arrangement sat in the center of the room, bursting with vibrant colors-reds, pinks, and whites-its fragrance subtle but inviting. Soft music played in the background, blending perfectly with the low hum of conversation from other guests scattered around the plush seating areas. Everything felt so... refined, almost otherworldly, as though I'd stepped into a scene from a movie.
Sean spoke briefly with the concierge, who handed him two key cards. Without saying much, he led me to the elevator. I followed silently, my heels clicking softly against the marble floors as I walked. The elevator doors slid open, and we stepped inside. The ride up was smooth, the quiet whir of the elevator almost calming as we ascended.
When the doors opened, we walked down a long corridor with thick carpeting beneath our feet. The walls were a rich cream color, with gold accents and framed artwork that looked like they belonged in a museum. My footsteps felt muffled, the entire space exuding an air of luxury and privacy. Sean stopped in front of a large door and handed me a key card.
"This is your room," he said, his voice neutral but firm.
I nodded, taking the card from his hand, and with a soft click, the door opened. I stepped inside and was greeted by the most luxurious hotel room I'd ever seen.
It was spacious, with floor-to-ceiling windows that overlooked the city, the lights of Milan twinkling in the distance. The bed was massive, draped in crisp white linens and plush pillows that looked like clouds. A sitting area with elegant chairs and a glass coffee table sat near the window, and off to the side was a large desk, perfect for working-though I doubted I'd get much done in this atmosphere.
