Alex pov

Twenty-five minutes had passed since my parents came, and I couldn't help but smile as I watched Lucinda socialize with my family from the front door. Currently, Lucinda is with my mother looking at her phone while they giggle. I could only guess that my mother is showing Lucinda my childhood pictures, meaning I'll probably be teased later. A knock came from the front door, meaning the final guests had arrived.

Alex: Lucinda! They're here!

Lucinda: Coming! * hurried over to the front door * You ready, Alex?

Alex: As much as I can be.

Lucinda: * giggles * Good enough.

We opened the door and there stood Lucinda's parents. Her father was as tall as my father but more bulky. He has short ginger hair with a beard and mustache. His eyes are the same scarlet eyes as Lucinda's. He was also wearing a thick dark blue sweater, a pair of blue jeans and a pair of black boots. He had a great big smile on his face when he saw Lucinda.

Lucinda's father: Lucy!

Lucinda: Dad, welcome to our home.

I watched the two hugs and was happy for her, but then I noticed behind Lucinda's father was a woman with pale bluish-periwinkle eyes and medium-light gray hair, in a down style. She's wearing a medium-dark navy jacket with medium blue trim, which is the same color as her shirt. She is also wearing long, black pants, white socks and black closed-toe shoes. It's none other than Lucinda's mother.

Lucinda: Hey mom, how was the trip?

Lucinda's Mother: It was alright, dear.

Alex: Hello, I'm Alex it's a pleasure to finally meet you, Mrs. Spellman.

I offered my right hand to her for a polite handshake. However, she stared at me for a moment.

Lucinda's mother: So you're Alex, my daughter told me about you.

Alex: Oh really?

Lucinda's mother: Yes, I only had to hear about it after three months of you two dating.

Alex: Oh...right.

Lucinda: Mom, I apologized for that.

Lucinda's mother: I know, and now that I'm here, I can ask Alex my line of questions, and we'll start over dinner, so I'll meet you there.

She walked past us and went into the house, leaving us nervous about what she planned to ask.

Alex: Well, she seems...sweet?

Lucinda: * sighs * Dad, do you know what she's going to ask?

Lucinda's father: Sorry, unfortunately, she wouldn't tell me anything. Apologies, Alex, it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Luke, and my wife is Hyria.

Alex: It's nice to finally meet you, sir.

Lucinda: Let's hurry up before my mom judges you for tardiness.

I shut the front door, and the three of us headed inside. I told everyone to get themselves a plate and drink, then be seated once everyone had their plates and drinks. we all sat at the dining room table it was rectangle shape. Me and Lucinda sat across from each other my mother and father sat to my right while my sister sat on my left while Lucinda's mother sat at Lucinda's left side while her father sat on her right.

Alex: Okay, everyone, let's dig in.

Sarah: Don't have to tell me twice!

Everyone started eating, and I'm glad to see satisfied faces on my parents and Lucinda's and her father. Only her mother isn't showing any.

Hyria: So tell me, Alex, what is it that you and your family do for a living?

Lucinda looked to her mother, curious what her mother was asking.

Alex: Well, me and my family are Rune mages.

Hyria: Rune mages? I remember hearing about them before, but I never met one before.

Dad: That's not surprising. runecraft is an old form of magic dating over thousands of years. But over time, when other witches and wizards found "easier" ways of doing magic, they started to abandon Runecraft little by little until only a handful still use it like me and my family.

Luke: I see. I'm sorry to hear that.

Hyria: Do you not have other family members to help with it?

Dad: No, unfortunately, most of them either abandoned Runecraft craft for another type of magic, or they chose not to pursue magic at all.

Hyria: I see.

Lucinda: Wow...I'm sorry I don't know what to say.

Mom: Oh, don't be dear, our family hasn't given up yet.

Dad: Indeed, shortly after, when Emmy and I met, I helped teach her runecraft myself.

Lucinda: Really? So, like Alex teaching me?

Everyone turned to me now, curious about the two of us.

Hyria: You're teaching Lucinda?

Sarah: Should we assume these are "private lessons "? * teasing *

My face turned red, but I managed to take a deep breath and calm myself down.

Alex: Nothing like that. I taught her the same way we were taught Sarah.

Sarah: Oh, I see. So, how did that turn out?

Lucinda: It definitely wasn't easy. I did everything but purified the water.

Hyria: Purify water?

Dad: It's how all Rune mages in our family start out. They have to figure it out on their own.

Hyria: But what if they fail?

Dad: Well, you learn a lot more from failure than success, plus they discover new Runecraft techniques through it all.

Hyria: I see.

Alex: Yeah, and I can assure you Lucinda learned a lot. * chuckled *

Lucinda: * blushing * Alex!

Mom: Alexander, you have no room to laugh. You have your failings to like when you set our couch on fire.

Alex: Mom, that was an accident!

Lucinda couldn't help but laugh and as much as it embarrassed me I was just glad she's having fun and not worrying so much like I was.The night continued through the night while Lucinda's mother asked various questions through the dinner, some common, some personal and some about their shop together. After all was said and done, everyone was already finishing up their dinners.

Sarah: That was great! * stretching as she got up from her seat* Hey Alex, is it okay if I go relax in the living room?

Alex: Sure, I'll clean everything up.

Lucinda: I'll help too.

Mom: Thank you both.

My family and Lucinda's father want to the living room while me and Lucinda got up to start clean up everything but before we started I felt a tap on my right shoulder I turned around to see Lucinda's mother behind Mr.

Hyria: After you and my daughter finish, I would like to talk to you in private. Meet me in the backyard when you're finished.

She went outside to the backyard. Lucinda had a worried look on her face.

Lucinda: Alex, I'm worried what my mom wants to talk to you about.

Alex: I know.

After we finished cleaning, Lucinda came up to me and held my hands in hers. I could feel her tighten their grip slightly.

Lucinda: Alex...good luck.

She gave me a quick peck on the cheek as she headed towards the living room with her father and my family. I looked outside to see Hyria still waiting. So I took a calming breath and headed outside to hear what she had to say.
