14. Down The Rabbit Hole

Next morning, Lily sat on the Gilbert's couch, playing a game on her phone while Klaus stood up, leaning against the coach Lily was sitting on while eavesdropping on Caroline, who was standing in the kitchen while on the phone with Elena.

"Tell me you're not serious" a shocked Caroline said, once Elena finished telling her everything that had happened to them so far.

"I wish I weren't" Elena admitted, "When we got back from looking for Jeremy, Shane and Bonnie were both gone too, Shane needs Bonnie to cast the spell on Jeremy's tattoo in order to find the cure, and he managed to sneak them both out from under our noses".

"Well where's Damon in all of this?" a curious Caroline asked.

"We had an argument" Elena informed, "I thought he was just taking a walk, but then when we went to the beach we saw signs of a struggle".

"Meaning what?" a confused Caroline asked.

"Meaning somebody probably jumped him and grabbed him" Elena concluded.

"Do you think Shane took him?" Caroline suggested.

"No, he's not strong enough to take on" Elena stated, "Even with the element of surprise, he must have someone or at least a few someones helping him".

"God, I'm so sorry, I wish I was there to help" a guilty Caroline said, she hated the fact the fact her friends were in trouble while she was here in Mystic Falls, unable to help.

Lily rolled her eyes in annoyance hearing the concern in her sister's voice for her friends, something she hardly ever heard for her.

"Well maybe there's something you can do from home" Elena informed Caroline.

"Anything, tell me" an eager Caroline said, ready to do anything for her friends.

"So Shane's looking for the cure" Elena reminded, "We think we can find him, we have pictures of Jeremy's tattoo but we just can't translate the map".

"Unless you get the hunter's sword from Klaus" Caroline realised, both Lily and Klaus looked at each other and smirked, these people were hopeless.

"Exactly" Elena confirmed.

Rebekah, who was standing next to Stefan, listening to Elena and Caroline's conversation, turned to the youngest Salvatore, "He'll never give up the sword".

"If anyone can get him to give it up, it's Lily" Stefan said.

"Lily will never help, she's too angry" Rebekah stated, "And if Lily doesn't help, then there's no convincing Nik to give up that sword, he's terrified we'll use the cure against him to make him mortal, and even if he wasn't, he wouldn't want any of us to derive moments worth of happiness from being human".

"Well maybe he doesn't have to give it up" Stefan said, an idea forming in his head, "Klaus is stuck in Elena's house by Bonnie's spell, he can't go anywhere, there's only so many places you can hide a three foot piece of metal".

"I'll find it, don't worry" Caroline assured, having heard Stefan's words, "Just e-mail me photos of Jeremy's tattoo, I'll find the sword and I'll call you back".
