Wednesday’s fingers moved swiftly over the keys of her typewriter, the familiar clacking sound filling room. Her brow was furrowed in concentration, her gaze intense when suddenly, she felt the warm presence of Enid leaning over her shoulder, her voice soft and curious.

"What are you writing?" Enid’s voice was almost a whisper, yet it jolted Wednesday from her intense focus.

Wednesday tensed slightly, her hands freezing over the keys. She shot Enid a glance.

"You don’t need to know, Enid," she replied.

Enid gave a dramatic sigh, taking a step back and retreating to her bed, but her curiosity was clearly piqued.

"I was just curious. You've been at that thing for hours." She tilted her head thoughtfully. "I mean, you've been writing so much… have you ever published one of your stories?"

Wednesday’s lips formed a tight line. She gave a slight nod, clearly reluctant to talk about it, but she answered nonetheless.

"No, my editor said it was ‘not appropriate’ for most readers. Apparently, it’s too morbid."

Enid’s face twisted with an expression of genuine confusion.

"Is it really that bad?" she asked.

"It’s not for the faint of heart," Wednesday replied, her voice almost amused. "And certainly not for someone like you."

Enid chuckled, a gentle laugh that softened the edges of the room. “I guess I’ll have to take your word for it. You’ll let me read one someday, though, right?”

Wednesday’s gaze lingered on her for a moment, her face softening before she looked back at her typewriter.

“Maybe,” she murmured. She resumed her typing, the sound filling the silence between them once more.

They fell into a comfortable silence for a moment. Enid sighed, glancing at the walls, her thoughts drifting.

"You know," she said after a beat, breaking the silence, "I was thinking we could go somewhere together. Besides the Weathervane, I mean." Her voice held a hopeful note, tinged with a touch of excitement.

Wednesday’s fingers hovered over the keys, and she cast Enid a skeptical glance. "And where would that be?"

Enid bit her lip, her mind racing as she realized she hadn’t thought it through.

"I… haven’t exactly figured that out yet." She laughed, scratching the back of her head. "But somewhere different. I thought it might be fun to try something new."

Wednesday let out a small sigh, as though the idea was already exhausting her.

"I hope whatever place you choose isn’t crowded," she muttered.

Enid’s face lit up with a wide grin, her eyes sparkling with determination. "I’ll make sure of it," she promised.

As classes began and she settled into her seat, her mind wandered, thinking about where she could take Wednesday that would truly capture her interest.

She glanced over at her friend Yoko, who was watching her with an amused smirk.

Yoko nudged her, leaning in to whisper, "So, it’s practically a date, huh?"

Enid rolled her eyes, though she could feel her cheeks warming. "It’s not a date, Yoko. We’re just… hanging out."

"Right," Yoko chuckled, clearly unconvinced. "A casual little ‘hang out’ at a secluded spot. Sounds totally platonic to me."
