Enid lounged on her bed, aimlessly scrolling through her phone, when a sudden thought struck her. Her eyes darted to the calendar on her screen, confirming the date. October 11th. Her stomach dropped.
“Oh, crap,” she muttered, bolting upright.
From across the room, Wednesday, seated in her chair with a book in her lap, lifted her head.
Her sharp gaze settled on Enid. “Is something wrong?”
Enid froze, forcing a nervous chuckle.
“Uh, nope! Nothing at all!”
She scrambled to her feet, awkwardly brushing the lint off her sweater.
“I just remembered something I have to do. Super urgent. Totally fine, though!”
Wednesday raised an eyebrow, her dark eyes following Enid’s every jittery move.
“I’m just gonna...hang out with Yoko for a bit!” Enid blurted, grabbing her shoes.
Before Wednesday could respond, she darted out the door, slamming it shut behind her.
Enid sprinted through the halls, her sneakers squeaking against the polished floors as her mind raced.
How could she forget Wednesday’s birthday?! Two days! she only have two days!
When she finally reached Yoko’s dorm, she pounded on the door, her breath coming in short gasps.
The door creaked open, revealing Yoko with a puzzled look on her face. “Enid?"
Without waiting for an invitation, Enid barged in.
“I need your help!” she declared, pacing back and forth as her hands flailed dramatically.
“Hi to you too,” Yoko mumbled, closing the door behind her.
Divina, lounging on Yoko's bed with her legs crossed, looked up from her book.
“What’s going on?”
Enid stopped pacing long enough to shoot them a look of pure desperation. “Wednesday’s birthday is in two days, and I completely forgot about it!”
Yoko and Divina exchanged a glance before bursting into laughter.
“That’s the emergency?” Yoko said between chuckles.
“I thought you were in trouble or something,” Divina teased.
Enid groaned, throwing her hands in the air.
“Guys, this is serious! I need to find the perfect gift for her, and I’m running out of time!”
“Relax,” Yoko said, waving a hand. “It’s not like Wednesday’s into fancy or materialistic stuff. Just get her something simple. She’ll appreciate it.”
“Yeah,” Divina chimed in. “She’s not exactly the type to gush over diamonds or designer clothes. She’ll probably love anything as long as it’s from you.”
Enid shook her head.
“It can’t just be anything. It has to be meaningful—something that shows her how much she means to me. She’s...she’s the most important person in my life.”
Yoko’s teasing smirk softened. “Okay, fair. That’s actually really sweet.”
Divina nodded in agreement. “You’ve got a big heart, Enid. We get it. So, what’s the plan?”
“That’s the thing!” Enid groaned, collapsing dramatically into a nearby chair. “I have no idea what to get her.”
Yoko sighed, standing up and stretching. “Alright, how about this, tomorrow, we hit the town. We’ll help you brainstorm and find the perfect gift.”
