The halls of Nevermore were buzzing with the usual chatter as students filed out of their classes, ready to take on the rest of the day.
Wednesday was walking with Tyler by her side, his eyes flickered with curiosity towards her. It has been weeks of tension between her and Enid.
As they rounded the corner, Enid and her group of friends appeared, their laughter and light banter filling the air.
Yoko, Bianca, Kent, and Divina were wrapped up in conversation. Enid, however was behind them, her eyes darting toward Wednesday for a brief moment before quickly looking away.
Wednesday’s gaze followed her, feeling a familiar tug pulled at her chest. Enid had been avoiding her more than usual lately.
Any time Wednesday attempted to strike up even the most casual of conversations, Enid would find an excuse to slip away, as if she was avoiding her.
Tyler noticed, of course. He always did.
"She’s been avoiding you," Tyler said, his tone carrying a subtle hint of concern.
"Probably because I’ve been 'close' to her," Wednesday replied coldly.
Tyler raised an eyebrow, amusement flickering in his eyes.
"You mean ‘flirting’ with her?" he teased, his lips curling into a chuckle.
Wednesday merely shook her head, as if dismissing the very idea. But Tyler wasn’t wrong, and they both knew it.
She had been pushing boundaries lately, testing Enid’s reactions. A soft touch here, a teasing remark there—little things that, to anyone else, might have seemed insignificant.
But with Enid, everything felt heavier than she expected.
Tyler pressed on. "I mean, I did suggest you should win her back, but I didn’t expect you to...do that to her. I didn’t think you were capable of playing those kinds of games."
Wednesday exhaled sharply, her face remained impassive.
"It was your idea," she countered. "You said if I wanted her back, I had to try."
Tyler shrugged, his grin fading as his expression softened.
"That was a suggestion, Wednesday. But I didn’t think you’d… well, go about it like this. And honestly, I didn’t think you wanted her back that much. I thought you were...over her."
Wednesday stopped walking abruptly, her hand gripping Tyler’s arm as she pulled him toward a less crowded part of the hallway, away from prying eyes.
The corridor they stood on was narrow and shadowed, tucked away from the bustling of the school. The sound of their footsteps echoed faintly against the cold, stone walls.
"Over her?" Wednesday repeated, her voice almost bitter. Her dark eyes bore into Tyler’s for a moment, he could see the vulnerability beneath her.
She glanced away, her gaze falling to the floor. "I’m not over her, Tyler. Not even close."
Tyler’s eyes softened at her admission. He had known Wednesday for years, seen her in her darkest moments, but hearing her admit to something so deeply personal… it surprised him.
"So… what do you want, Wednesday? You’ve been distant for so long, I almost thought you were done with her."
Wednesday’s jaw tightened. "I want to apologize," she said quietly, her voice barely above a whisper. "For what I did to her. For hurting her the way I did."
"And then what?" Tyler prompted gently.
Wednesday hesitated, her fingers tightening around the edge of her sleeve.
