MAVIS

Over the next few weeks, things between Ashi and me took on a whole new vibe.

There was something different in how we acted around each other; the biting remarks, the constant bickering, and the small arguments that used to have a sharp edge now had a playful one.

She'd roll her eyes at me, I'd fire back with something witty, and our friends would watch it all with amused grins, nudging each other whenever things got a little too flirty.

Today, as usual, we were lounging around in our spot at the school oval, everyone swapping stories and laughs.

Ashi and I sat next to each other, casually sharing a bag of chips, with me occasionally “accidentally” eating the ones she reached for.

“Oh, come on, Mavis! Are you really gonna hog all the chips?” Ashi protested, crossing her arms but clearly not that mad.

I raised an eyebrow, smirking. “Why, do you want me to feed you or something?”

She shot me a look that was half-annoyed, half-amused. “In your dreams, Mavs. Matakaw ka”

“Admit it, you love it” I teased, tossing a chip in her direction, which she caught and ate without hesitation.

Our friends were watching this little exchange with knowing smirks. Mali leaned forward, nudging Sace. “Pustahan tayo, in a week, sila na talaga”

Sace grinned, clearly entertained. “You think it'll take that long? Honestly, I'm giving it three days.”

Ashi groaned, giving our friends a look. “Wow, seriously? You guys are betting on this?”

Colen, who was now practically bouncing with excitement, chimed in, “It's just too entertaining! The enemies-to-lovers arc is practically writing itself.”

I couldn't resist adding to the fire. “See, Ashi? Even our friends are rooting for us.” I leaned in closer, voice dropping a bit. “It's almost like fate or something, kailan mo ba ako sasagutin?"

Ashi rolled her eyes, shoving me lightly. “You wish, Mavis. This isn't some fairytale— maghintay ka”

“Oh, I know” I replied, winking. “But who says a little drama isn't fun, hindi mo ba alam na habang hinihintay kita ay lalo niya akong akong inaakit”

"I-inaakit, nino?"

"Wrong question" I smirked

"Then what?" Masungit na saad niya, pikon na

"Alin" I stated, correcting her

"Inaakit ng alin?" Her eyebrows knitted, hindi pa nagegets ang ibig kong sabihin.

"Yung labi ko" Mahinang bulong ko, sapat lamang sa pandinig niya. "Inaakit ng mga labi mo" I added at natawa ng namumula niya akong itulak palayo.

"Buang!" She snapped kaya I laughed.

Just then, Gian and Sam walked over, looking as mischievous as ever.

Gian gave Sam a sideways glance before turning to me. “So, Mavs, tell me—how many times have you ‘accidentally’ run into Ashi at the library this week?”

I shrugged, grinning. “Only like four times. Totally a coincidence, of course.”

Ashi snorted. “More like a stalker at this point.” Masama pa rin ang tingin sa akin.

“Oh, so you did notice me” I fired back, enjoying the way her cheeks flushed just a little.

“Whatever” She muttered, rolling her eyes again but unable to hide her smile.

Colen, meanwhile, had her own agenda. She turned to Jai, smirking. “And speaking of noticing… how many more ‘accidental’ run-ins are you planning, Jai?”

Jai scoffed, giving Col a shove. “Me? You're the one who keeps showing up in my science lab, pretending you forgot something.”

Colen smirked, unbothered. “Maybe I just like the view there.”

Jai's face went pink, and she turned away with an exasperated huff, but everyone could see the smile tugging at her lips.

Mali was laughing so hard she was clutching her stomach, while Sace, as usual, was trying to look innocent.

“Puro ka talaga kalokohan, Col” Mali said, giving her a playful smack on the shoulder.

Colen just shrugged, leaning back casually. “Hey, I'm just following fate's lead.”

Sace then turned her attention to Mali, grinning. “So, speaking of fate, Mali—want to grab coffee after school?”

Mali looked taken aback for a second, her eyes narrowing playfully. “Hmm, ano kayang balak mo, Sace?”

“Oh, nothing sinister. Just coffee. Unless” She wiggled his eyebrows, and Mali rolled her eyes, though she was clearly amused.

“Ako pa ba? Baka ikaw ang may ulterior motives” She shot back, but everyone could see the way she was smiling.

In the middle of all this teasing and playful banter, I caught Ashi watching me with a little smirk.

We'd fallen into this rhythm, this back-and-forth that was both frustrating and oddly comfortable.

I knew everyone saw us as “enemies to lovers” but the truth was a little messier than that.

I leaned back, crossing my arms and giving her a challenging look. “So, Ashi how would you label us exactly? Friends? Frenemies? Or something more?”

She raised an eyebrow, seeming to think it over. “You know, I'd say we're somewhere between enemies and lovers.”

“Enemies and lovers?” I repeated, feigning offense. “What, so you're just planning to keep hating me and love me?”

“Maybe” She replied with a smirk, “But if I told you all my secrets, Mavs, it'd ruin the fun.”

“Oh, don't worry. I'm sure I'll figure them out soon enough” I said, flashing her a grin.

She just shook her head, looking both amused and exasperated.

As the teasing and banter continued, I felt something settle between us—something unspoken yet understood.

The label didn't matter, not right now. All that mattered was that, for once, I was genuinely enjoying the thrill of not knowing exactly where this was going.

And if our friends were going to keep teasing us, well that just made it all the more fun journey of love.
