Hearing that his wife passed it killed him. Along with that, now he has to go back to America. Not that he mind coming back, it was seeing his daughter that he hasn't really spoken to in months. Her mother always does her best with raising his child.

Picking up the phone to call his Marlowe, within hoping that she'll understand that he doesn't want to come back. Knowing Marlowe, she would hang the phone up on him and never want to speak to him again.

Philp picks up the phone and starts to dial the number. Thankfully it was Marlowe picked up the phone. "Hey kiddo.'

'Oh, hey dad.' Marlowe sounded like she could drop at any moment.

"I wanted to call you to say I'm sorry about your mom." Smoking his cigar.

Marlowe rolled her eyes and he could feel it. 'Yeah, sorry about your wife.' Crossing her arms wishing that this conversation wasn't happening.

"Listen, I was wondering since it's almost summer for you.... I could come up there for a while and then you spend some of your summer here with me?" He doesn't know what to do this was his best offer.

Marlowe sighed as she looked at her watch, Steve is late picking her up for the movies. 'Only if you want me around dad. And that you're truly going to spend time with me if I go with you.'

Phillip is happy to hear that his only child still wants him around. "Of course I will. I really want a fresh start with you Mars." Phillip alone at home, knowing that he wasn't going to waste away with this guy feeling that no one wanted him around.

Marlowe gave in. 'Sure, but...' she was going to tell him about the surgery. Changing her mind about that, cause Marlowe wanted to make sure that it was really happening. 'Alright dad I'll let you know what the plan is.'

The "but" part changed, Philp wanted to know why it was changed. He was more excited to hear that his daughter is coming to visit him. "Beautiful." Looking at his watch. "Alrighty honey I'll talk to you soon. I love you sis."

It was strange to hear her dad calling her sis. But she went along with it. 'Love you too dad.' Haning up the phone it just felt like something was off with her dad. If her truly meant it, then she is all gamed for a new start. But if this is just another same ole' same 'ole then it's a fat chance that nothing will ever change with him.

Going to the movies with Steve was a bust, so Marlowe stayed home watching the triplets that were almost the same age as her. The one thing that would bring the four of them together was Candyland. "Ohhh move six spaces back, loser." Adam spoke loudly to one of his brothers.

The one that was born first, his name is Ringo after Ringo from The Beatles. Ringo hated his name at first never understanding why his parents would name him that until he started to listen to The Beatles. "Fine." Moving back, Ringo glanced at Marlowe. "What's the matter with you?"

Marlowe sighed as she waited for her turn. "Your uncle called me today, asking if I could spend my summer with him."

Adam looked up as he was watching Ringo placing his mover to the correct spot. "Out of the blue he called and asked you that? Is he insane to ask you such of a thing." Knowing about Marlowe's past with her dad in all.

"Yeah, I mean my mom died and he wants me out of the blue." Marlowe's turn to drawl a card, telling her moving two spots and she does. "A part of me is like finally he wants me. Another part of me is like why? What's changed that you need me now?"

Shrugging as Ringo had no idea what to say to that. "What is up with people thinking that it's okay to do that?"

Marlowe knew the answer to that, but didn't dare say anything to them. Ringo had won the round with Candyland. By 8pm the boys had to leave to go to school for the very next day.

Granny came out from the kitchen with a soft smile. "Alrighty deary, time for bed." Even though she didn't have to go to bed.

"Granny it's only eight." Marlowe softly whined.

Great granddad mummbeled roughly to Marlowe. "Listen to Granny."

Marlowe sighed as she stood up kissing them both on the cheek before going to her bedroom. Rubbing her forehead as she gathered up her pj's and began to work on her homework. Looking outside the window, Billy was still in his car. The car lights aren't on, he's not getting out or anything. Which was odd for a moment. Shutting her book as she put on her coat and slippers. Even though it was still winter, she wasn't going to allow Billy to sleep in his car. If it was summer, that's one thing, even then Marlowe would ask to come to stay the night in the guest bedroom.

Knocking on his window, Billy wouldn't move thinking it was his dad. But his dad didn't come from the front door nor the garage. Marlowe whispered. 'It's me California.' not turning his head still. 'I just wanted to make sure if you alright. If you wasn't, just come with me. I won't even ask what happened.' Nothing still. Slowly opening the door so it wouldn't wake up his parents. Touching his cold left shoulder. Then moving to his cheek to make sure that he was still alive and not froze to death.

Snapping his head, looking at her. "Why are you touching me?" With an angry attitude.

Removing her hand quickly. "You weren't answering me."

"Maybe I want you to leave me the fuck alone."

Stepping back from him. "Okay I'm sorry." Back to her house, there was a soft voice saying wait. Looking back it was Billy. Opening the house door, Marlowe let Billy into the home.

"The extra room is down stairs, don't worry, it's fully heated and there is a heating blanket in case. Please let me know if you need anything."

"Thanks." Billy softly said even though Granny was still up crocheting. She didn't mind.

As Billy want downstairs to warm up, you can hear the soft conversation that Granny and Marlowe were having. "So your surgery is next month. You ready?"

"More than ready. Do you think Dad would be mad at me for getting it?"

"If he is, then he doesn't care about you. A parent should love you for you. Not judging you because you're overweight or not, or whatever." Granny mentioned. "I'm so proud of you."

"Thanks Granny."

Billy didn't understand about the surgery information cause there many different surgeries. But leaving him, Billy became jealous. If Marlowe was really leaving.
