Next few weeks Billy has nothing but being rude to Steve. Saying that he would still bang every girl in the school to out beat him. Even the ugly ones. Steve would ignore Billy as much as he could. But tonight was it.

Billy had to call off his date because of his step sister is missing. He went to the Wheelers house to get the information about where his dear sister that he ever loves so much. But she wasn't there hitting on Karen Wheeler to make her feel flattered, important as well. Once he got his information about where Max could be he headed to the Byers.

Max and the rest of the kids were standing about in the living room having a conversation about what to do next. A loud car noise came around the corner, Max whips her head around to the front of the living room that had a big window. Turning around and heading to the window. It's Billy's car. Looking back Steve comes out from the bathroom.

"Billy's here."

The look on Steve's face was more like 'fuck'. Steve heads outside as he was going to stand up for Max to keep her safe. Marlowe came from the kitchen from making popcorn, slowly following Steve from the behind. Opening the door after Steve shuts it. Steve turns around with his hands on his hips. "Go back inside Mar."

Rolling her eyes as she did what he asked her too. "Am I dreaming of is that you Harrington?"

"Yeah it's me. Don't cream your pants."

Billy punch's Steve after lying to them. Marlowe was in the bathroom, things crashing and Billy on top of Steve beating the shit out of him. Marlowe sighs as Max stopped him. Rubbing her head not knowing what to do. Max was taught how to drive from Billy.

Billy heavily drugged as Marlowe stayed behind getting out a bag of ice and wrapping it up with a cloth. Slowly awaking from the drug, Billy shout out for Max. "MAX!"

Coming from the kitchen as Marlowe fastly walked over to him. Kneeling down. "She isn't here California." Placing a cloth that has ice in it. "I sent her to take Steve and the boys home. If Steve survives this."

Wanting to remove the cloth from his head, it felt good on his head. It felt like his dad won all over again making him angry and hurting on there people that really didn't need to be hurt. But that is how he was raised. He sees that Marlowe had starred at the bruises that Neil had gave him hours before finding Max. "It's nothing."

"What? That bruise on your right cheek?" She acted like she wasn't looking at it. With a soft smile. "I'm sure it's nothing."

"Why did you stay behind?" Doing his best he tried to sit up, he moaned a bit hoping the Marlowe didn't hear him.

"Are you going to explain to Mrs.Byer why her house is a mess?" She didn't give Billy time to answer. "Didn't think so. Besides someone had to stay behind to make sure your alive." She chuckled. Heading back into the kitchen to sweep up the glass. "Steve can be a jerk sometimes, but whatever it was, I don't think it was that bad."

Covering up his moans with a cough as he got himself up from the floor and headed to the kitchen where Marlowe is. "He lied, Max disobeyed me. Yeah I got mad, I hate when people don't listen to me."

"And threatening a child is okay as well?" Shaking her head as she squat down to sweep the glass into the dust pan. Standing back up and throwing it into the bin of garbage. "I don't like it when people lie to me as well. California, if you want to make it out alive from this town you have to learn to hold in your anger. Believe me." One of the reasons why her dad left.

"What pisses you off more than people lying to you?" Billy sorta helped picking up the mess that he and Steve made.

"Hurting the people that I care for. Including Max, California." She sighs. "I'm sorry Billy. My family always tells me to butt out of things, I bet that you are mad at me. I'm more of a fighter than Steve is. Next time leave the fighting match's at home or at the gym."

Billy looks up and down out her with a cocky smile. "I bet you can hold your own."

With an annoying sigh. "Please Billy, your ass has been kicked enough today. Just be a human being than an ass." Marlowe wasn't going to have it. Besides Joyce could come home at any moment. What is she going to say to her?

"I didn't mean it like that." With a sigh. He looked around him. "I don't break my promises."

Marlowe looked at him with her head tilt. "What do you mean?"

"She asked me to leave her alone and her friends."

Once he said that, she remember. "Right. Nor do I Billy. Just promise me one thing before you leave."

"What?"

"Whatever is going on at home or at school, you are more than welcome to talk to me."

"What are you saying?" He was getting defensive.

"Whoever is hitting you at home, I'm willing to listen."

Scoffing at her. "Like you know what's it's like." Turning away as he walks off.

"I do." Shouting a little at him. Not that he would care not listen. But she told a bit about her life to him. "Before moving here, my dad's dad, was an well is an awful man. He beat my father like he was nothing. My dad thought by getting married and loving a wonderful life, that he'd be free. Boy was my father ever wrong. Then my granny's dad did the same to her. So coming from both sides of family who has to deal with abuse. I know how to listen California."

Billy did stay and listen, knowing some else knows the struggle was hard enough. But he couldn't, wouldn't let her in for that.
