It's been a little over a week since Zach and I took the relationship past the friend zone. I can't stop thinking about it. It gives me butterflies every time. I also haven't been able to kiss him since. The kids are at home with me all week and this weekend. Sneaking around is a lot harder to do in my 30s than when I was a teenager.

"What?! You're serious?!" Cassidy's face blanks, her eyes wide.

"Yeah." I nod.

"Holy fuck! Does anyone else know?"

"No, I don't know when or how I'm going to bring it up to the kids or Brian..." I say with worry in my voice, I walk across the living room. The kids will be home any minute but I insisted she come over as soon as she was done work to talk to her. The secret was eating me, I had to tell someone so, what better than her?

"Well who gives a fuck about Brian, the kids though, I think they'll be excited. I mean, they love Zach, he's like an uncle." She reminds.

"Yeah, but uncle transitioning to step daddy, I don't know." I sigh.

"Ooo step daddy." She smiles and raises a brow. I laugh and feel my cheeks heat.

"No. We're not saying that." I laugh. I don't even know what Zach would say if I called him that, especially in sexual context like she's hinting at.

"Oh just try it. Trent loves it."

"Well Trent is a dad, but that's besides the point, I just needed to tell you what was going on. Don't tell anyone." I say and she shakes her head and laughs.

"My lips are sealed." She motions. Perfect timing, the kids school bus just pulled up.

Later that night, I'm making dinner, the kids are at the table doing homework. I'm day dreaming about the other night still. His lips, the kiss, the feeling of his hands on my body, his dick hard against me, my god. It makes me wet just thinking about it, imagining what he'd be like in bed is sending chills through my body.

"Mom! Are you going to answer it!" Landon yells out at me annoyed. My phone is ringing in my back pocket, I didn't even hear it.

"She's getting old now, maybe she needs a hearing aide like grandpa."

"Hey, I am not old." I argue with a laugh, "Hello?" I answer Zach and hold it up to my ear. Careful with what the volume is set at, I don't want the kids to hear him say anything crude.

"Hey, so I just got off a shift with Trent..." he pauses as if I'm supposed to know where he's going with this and finish his sentence.

"Yeah? How was it?" I ask.

"Good. But I'll be honest, I was a little surprised when he confronted me about you and I."

"Oh. Huh. I'm sorry-"

"It's fine sweetheart. But next time just maybe mention you're going to tell someone, especially someone like Cassidy." He suggests gently. I look back at the kids, they're concentrated on their homework but just to be safe I escape to my bedroom and shut the door.

"I'm sorry. I really didn't think she'd tell Trent. I told her not to say anything but I guess-"

"They're married, I could've told you she wasn't going to keep it from him." He chuckles.

"Right. I should've known, I'm sorry, I-"

"It's okay Nic, all I'm suggesting is we discuss who we're telling from now on so I don't look like a shitty friend." He laughs slightly. I close my eyes and let out a sigh, how could I have not saw this going this way? "I'll see you Monday night?" He asks, I feel better he isn't mad at me and still wants to follow through with our plans.
