fantasia b.

"how does it feel being kid free?"

"bad. i miss my baby."

i got off of work and went straight to my parent's house.

"well, one more day, and he's all yours."

"so, i was thinking about moving back to atlanta." i never thought ill be saying this.

"moving back, why?"

"because bryce is hours away from me. we can still co-parent, but in the same city."

"that woman is already dangerous. you two do not need to be anywhere near each other unless bryce is being brought back."

"this has nothing to do with her. im just here, and he's all the way over there. too much traveling for no reason."

"you're an adult. do what it is you have to do for your son. im only one call away."

"are you tired of the repetitive cycles?"

"ill never get tired of them because you're my daughter, and my job is to be there for you no matter what choices you make. i just don't wanna see you hurt anymore, tasia."

"im not gonna get hurt. im not the weak fantasia i was a year ago. i wouldn't make the decision if i felt as if i was gonna get myself back in that situation."

"i trust your decisions. if you need me my phone is always with me just call."

"i will. i love you, mama."

"i love you more, honeypie. when do you plan on going?"

"in a few months. maybe two."

"okay."

"so, yeah, im tired. i will call you in the morning."

"alright, drive safe."

"ok. love you"

"love you back!"

i facetimed taraji on the road.

"wass–"

"bryce. where is he?"

"quit being rude fore i hang up."

"taraji, where is my son?"

"you just woke him up with that loud ass mouth."

"let me see his face. i need to make sure there are no marks." she hung up on me and didn’t answer when i called back.

turning on my street, i saw ambulances and police. not only were they there, but it was my house that was on fire. i parked and jumped out of my car, attempting to run up there when someone stopped me.

"ma'am you can't go up there"

"this is my house! what happened in there?!"

"were not sure."

"im detective jordan."

"fantasia" i shook his hand.

"is this your home?"

"y-yes, can you tell me how this happened?"

"we haven't figured it out yet. once we do, you'll be the first to know. while we wait, is it ok if i ask a few questions?"

i was shaking. all of bryce’s things important things were in there. i can repurchase most of the paperwork, but the thought of it all just gone like that makes me sad. our entire home is gone. i didn't realize i zoned out until someone tapped my shoulder.
