The Moonlight Pack compound felt different the next morning. The quiet had turned into tense stillness as if the forest itself was holding its breath. Outside their quarters, the group gathered to finalize their plan for the day, each steeling themselves for what was to come.
Namjoon, Yoongi, and Hoseok stay behind with the elders," Jungkook said, his eyes straying to the main building. "They might slip up under more pressure."
Taehyung nodded. "Jimin and I will dig around the inner compound. There are bound to be records somewhere-territory maps, patrol logs, anything that can confirm or disprove their version of events.
"And Jungkook and I will focus on the borders," Namjoon said, looking toward the woods. "Let's see what else we can find out there."
The group exchanged determined looks before breaking off into their pairs.(Namjoon & Jungkook)
Namjoon and Jungkook walked silently through the thick woods surrounding the compound. The chill of the morning air had given way to a damp, suffocating warmth that clung to their skin. The quiet was unnatural, disturbed only by the rare rustle of leaves underfoot.
We need to go deeper," Namjoon said, scanning the trees. "The claw marks you found yesterday were too deliberate. If there's more evidence, it'll be harder to spot."
Jungkook nodded his sharp senses on high alert. The farther they went from the compound, the more the forest seemed to shift—older, wilder.
Namjoon stopped abruptly, dropping into a crouch near a cluster of disturbed earth. "Look at this.
Jungkook knelt beside him, studying the site. The earth was freshly turned it was as if something lay buried here and had lately been dug up.
"Could be a shallow grave," Jungkook muttered, brushing away dirt to reveal jagged pieces of broken wood. He frowned. "No, this isn't natural. Those splinters almost look like part of a weapon."
Nam-joon picked up a fragment of a handle. "A spear? Too complicated for thieves.
"Exactly," Jungkook said grimly. "Whatever happened here wasn't random."(Jimin & Taehyung)
Inside the Moonlight Pack's inner compound, Jimin and Taehyung slipped into the administrative wing, careful to avoid drawing attention. The building was smaller and older than the rest, its walls lined with shelves of meticulously labelled records.
"Start with the patrol logs," Taehyung whispered, pulling open a drawer. "Anything around the time of the attack."
Jimin nodded, scanning the labels before pulling out a stack of files. They worked in silence, flipping through pages of neat handwriting and stamped approvals.
"Got something," Jimin said softly. He held up a patrol schedule marked for the week of the attack. "This says there were no border patrols scheduled for that night. None."
Taehyung frowned. "That doesn't make sense. Every pack keeps their borders monitored, especially one this strict.
"Unless they wanted the attack to happen," Jimin said, his voice low.
Taehyung's eyes narrowed. "Let's keep looking. There's more to this."
A sudden noise from the hallway made them both freeze. Footsteps.
"Someone's coming," Jimin whispered, sliding the files back into place.
Taehyung grabbed his arm, pulling him into the shadows just as the door opened. Two pack members stepped inside, their voices hushed but urgent.
"We have to transfer the rest of the files," one said. "Beta Hyeon doesn't want any loose ends."
"Where are we to take them?"
"The old storage room in the east wing. No one ever goes there."
As the pack members left, Taehyung exchanged a look with Jimin.
"East wing," Taehyung said, his voice barely audible.
Jimin nodded, his lips pressed into a determined line.
Back in the elders' wing, Namjoon, Yoongi, and Hoseok were seated before Elder Eun once again. This time, however, Namjoon didn't indulge in formalities.
"We found evidence of recent rogue activity on your borders," Namjoon said, his tone sharp. "But the markings are staged. Care to explain?
Elder Eun's face did not change. "We have been strained on many sides, and maybe some of our young wolves acted rashly to bolster the appearance of security."
"Acted rashly?" Yoongi cut in, his voice cold. "That's a good excuse for an attempt to intentionally deceive us."
"We also checked your patrol logs," Hoseok added, his even tone cloaking his anger. "No patrols were scheduled on the night of the attack. Why?
Elder Eun hesitated for the first time, her hands folding tightly in her lap. "There was. a miscommunication. The Beta—"
"The Beta is the one orchestrating this," Yoongi cut in, his voice low and dangerous. "We're done playing along."
Elder Eun's poise cracked just that once, her gaze flicking to the other elders before she straightened. "I don't know what you expect to accomplish with accusations. The truth is what the council decides it is."
Namjoon's eyes hardened. "The truth is coming out, whether you like it or not.
The east wing was abandoned, its corridors dim and musty. Jimin and Taehyung moved quickly but quietly, their senses sharp.
"This must be it," Taehyung said, stopping in front of a heavy wooden door.
Jimin pushed it open to reveal a cluttered storage room. Dust hung in the air, and old crates lined the walls. But in the centre of the room sat a pile of hastily stacked boxes marked with the pack's seal.
"Let's see what they didn't want us to find," Jimin said, pulling open the nearest box.
Inside were more records—maps, patrol schedules, and letters. Taehyung rifled through another box, pulling out a sealed envelope.
"Jimin," he said, his voice urgent.
Jimin turned to see Taehyung holding up the envelope, two names scrawled on it: Alpha Dae Hong, and Beta Hyeon.
"This is it," Taehyung said, opening the envelope. Inside was a letter, in Dae Hong's handwriting.
The words were clear: "Hyeon is no longer fit to lead. His ambitions threaten the pack's future."
Jimin's eyes widened. "This changes everything."
"We need to get this to Namjoon," Taehyung said.
As night began to fall, the group reunited to share what they had found. Namjoon's face grew darker with each word, and by the end, his fists were clenched.
"Hyeon isn't just hiding something," Yoongi said. "He's orchestrating all of this. He's covering his tracks to protect himself.
Taehyung placed the letter on the table, its contents clear in the flickering lamplight. "And Alpha Dae Hong knew it. He was planning to remove Hyeon from power."
Namjoon leaned back, his jaw tight. "If that letter gets to the council, it could change everything. But we'll need more than this to take him down."
"We keep pushing," Jungkook said, his voice firm. "This isn't over yet."
Unfazed, the group nodded their oaths. They knew it, but the Moonlight Pack was breaking through their web of deceit piece by piece.
