The tension in the packhouse was palpable. Days had passed since the brothers' heated discussion, but the wounds of that argument hadn't healed. They spoke only when necessary, their conversations stilted and devoid of warmth.
Namjoon flung himself into the managing of pack affairs, repressed frustration evident. Taehyung and Jungkook avoided the main house altogether, silencing their patrols around the borders. The joint responsibilities thrown on Yoongi and Jimin forced them into an uneasy truce, whereas Hoseok moved between them all, his usual optimism strained.
Meanwhile, YN had tried to make her way through this fractured atmosphere, devoting herself to the care and well-being of the pack members who relied on her for guidance. There was always the Ironfang threat, but nobody dared bring it up.
Maybe they thought the danger was gone, that it had all blown over. Maybe they were so blinded by their conflicts with each other that they wouldn't see the signs.
And then, just before dawn, the Ironfang Pack struck.
The warning howl tore through the morning quiet, and the whole pack sprang into action. Wolves spilt from their dens, scrambling to form defences. Cunning and ruthless, the Ironfangs exploited every weakness, pushing deep into the territory before anyone could mount a proper response.
Namjoon rallied the brothers quickly, his voice cutting through the chaos. "We hold them here! Protect the pack!"
YN stepped forward, ready to join the fight, but Namjoon stopped her with a firm hand on her shoulder.
"YN, I need you to lead the civilians to the safe spot. Keep them hidden and secure until it's over."
"But I can fight—"
"I know," Namjoon interrupted, his voice steady but urgent. "But we can't risk it. Please, YN. The pack needs you.
She nodded reluctantly and started guiding the scared pack members toward a hidden bunker deep in the forest.
Namjoon's leadership was resolute as the brothers fought against the Ironfang wolves. Despite strained relations, their instincts took precedence, and they worked together like the well-oiled unit they had always been.
Jungkook and Taehyung were holding the flank down south, their moves in unison to press back the onslaught. Jimin and Yoongi were at the north edge, sharp and unforgiving with their attacks. Hoseok moved between the fronts, boosting the younger wolves' spirits and morale.
Namjoon ran the battle from the middle, his orders sharp and direct. He changed their structures on the spot to fit the plans the Ironfangs had thought up.
But the Ironfangs would not stop. They attacked the Alpha's quarters, trying to wipe out the leadership of the pack and leave them in disarray.
"They're coming for the heart of the pack," Yoongi growled, his voice low and grim as he joined Namjoon.
"Then we show them they've underestimated us," Namjoon replied.
The battle reached its climax with the final, desperate onslaught of the Ironfang wolves. And, just as Namjoon had planned, they found their way into a narrow choke point where they could be surrounded.
Jungkook and Taehyung cut off their retreat, while Jimin and Yoongi closed in from the other side. Hoseok led the younger wolves in a coordinated strike where their combined efforts overwhelmed the Ironfangs.
When the sun finally rose fully, the Ironfang Pack was in full retreat, their forces shattered. They'd won, but the cost was carved on every face.
The packed house again served as their destination as the brothers took seats in the great hall. The adrenaline had worn off by this point, leaving only the weight of their actions and the realization of how close they'd come to disaster.
Namjoon was at the front of the room, silent as his eyes viewed them each in turn. There were exchanged glances amongst brothers, apologies hanging unsaid between them.
Jungkook spoke up first. "You saved us today, Namjoon. All of us. Without your plan." His words were reduced to a thick mumble at his throat.
Taehyung nodded, his usual sharpness replaced by sincerity. "You were right. About everything. We've been so focused on ourselves that we forgot what mattered."
Yoongi, ever blunt, added, "We need an Alpha. And it's obvious who it should be."
Jimin crossed his arms, his voice quiet but firm. "You kept us together when we were falling apart. If that's not what an Alpha does, I don't know what is."
Hoseok smiled weakly. "We have always followed your lead, Namjoon. Time to make it official."
Tears glistened in Namjoon's eyes as he listened to their words. "It's not about me-it's about all of us. I wouldn't be here without you."
Jin stepped forward, his face proud. "And that's just why you're the right choice. An Alpha doesn't lead for himself-he leads for the pack."
The room went silent, the decision made in an instant.
The full moon cast its light upon the clearing as the brothers stood side by side, the pack in attendance. Jin did the ritual, finally letting the title of Alpha go to Namjoon.
As the ceremony came to a close, Namjoon spoke to the pack with a voice strong and unshaken. "Today we proved one thing: our strength is not in the number, nor is it in the might of our individuals. It lies in unity. We are unbreakable together. And it is together that we'll rebuild and protect what belongs to us."
The eruption of cheers was deafening into the night.
The brothers were standing shoulder to shoulder now, their fractures mended through fire and blood.
Jungkook grinned, playfully nudging Namjoon. "Don't get too comfortable, Alpha. We'll still keep you on your toes."
Taehyung smirked. "Yeah, someone's got to keep you humble."
Namjoon laughed, the sound warm and genuine. "I wouldn't have it any other way."
And for the first time in weeks, the pack felt whole again, ready to face whatever lay ahead together.
