Pulling up to the bright yellow neon sign, Kat could see the early signs of the sun starting to rise over the horizon. The sky was now a navy blue rather than pitch black.

Morgan scurried a few steps ahead to walk in front and open the door, which made Kat let out a small "thank you". It was empty but she couldn't help but smile at his choice of place.

"Hi welcome to Waffle House" said a woman behind the register as she returned back to cleaning the kitchen area.

The two sat down at the counter next to each other and began to skim the menus.

"What made you think of this?" Kat asked curiously as she decided what she wanted to order.

"I was craving a waffle" he shrugged as he narrowed his eyes at the menu.

Kat looked at him as she noticed his left eye crinkle more than the other, making a smile appear on her face. She wasn't hoping to notice these little things about him but she was.

"What's your go-to order?" Morgan asked as he redirected his attention to her.

Kat grinned as the waitress came over while looking at Morgan, "Can I get a chocolate chip waffle?".

Morgan's eyebrows raised in surprise as he ordered the same thing before giving her a smirk, "Quite the classic".

The conversation between them flowed easy as he rubbed little circles on her leg once in awhile, making an electric chill rush through her body. And by the time they were making their way back to the truck, the world was beginning to slowly come back to life and the birds were beginning to wake up.

As Morgan pulled up to her apartment, Kat found herself struggling to stay awake. "Tonight was something," Morgan yawned.

Kat smiled, her heart more content than before as she nodded.

As he shifted the truck in park, they gazed into each others eyes before he brushed a strand of her hair back and gave her a kiss on the forehead, "Goodnight Kat".

"Goodnight Morgan" she whispered as she crawled out the truck.

...

As her eyes fluttered open, she couldn't help but groan at the blinding light coming through the blinds. 11:10 AM. Despite it being so late in the day, all she wanted to do was rot in bed.

The girl groupchat was blowing up on her phone as she yawned and rubbed her eyes. Amara and Kat were both making conspiracies as to where Kat could have been since they had been spamming the chat.

Kat: im awake, i was with morgan! it's been a long night

Amara: oh it was long? ;)

Kat: AMARA we didn't sleep together

Hailey: tell him to not steal you away. lunch in an hour at Roasters?

Kat: ok

Kat knew there was no way she was getting out of seeing her best friends at the cafe. She had been spending so much time with Morgan that she hadn't been texting her friends, but they weren't stupid. Despite being excited about the night before, Kat was dumbfounded as to why he hadn't texted her yet... surely he was sleeping?

Rolling out of bed, she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror. Even though she felt like a literal train wreck and looked like one, she refused to change. Sweatpants and a t-shirt were the move.

Kat barely had any time to sit before being hounded with questions by her best friends.

"You late," Hailey teased her as she sipped her mimosa. "Busy with Morgan?".

Amara leaned in with a grin, "You can't pretend. Tell us everything".

Kat groaned, "Can I buy a coffee first?".

"One step ahead of you," Amara immediately smiled as the coffee was being put down on the table in front of her.

"We went on a... date? We were at an overlook and them went to Waffle House. He played some music and we just kissed... guys it felt so good" Kat blushed under her breath.

Hailey exchanged a glance with Amata before squealing and looking at Kat, "Girl you caught feelings".

Kat opened her mouth to argue but stopped. Were they right? She hadn't let herself think too hard about it previously but the more she thought about it, she supposed she had a crush.

"I'm just trying to take one day at a time," she said sipping her coffee.

Hailey reached across the table and gave her a hand squeeze. She could tell Kat was nervous because of Max. "That is so understandable. Don't freak yourself out, go with the flow".

Amara made a face before looking at Kat, "Isn't he leaving soon?".

Kat's whole body stiffened and Amara's face flashed with regret. She hated how much that stung.

"It's nothing serious" Kat bluntly said.

"Right, and that is why you're acting lovesick? We just want to prepare you," Hailey raised an eyebrow.

"I've been trying not to think about it. We both agreed on just going with the flow of things," Kat confessed.

"Ok now, you seem more awake, do you want a mimosa?" Amara pretended to observe her friend as she handed her a champagne flute.
