A/N: I actually misread a section in the book and thought that the Demeter Cabin would be guarding Brooklyn-Battery Bridge and not Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel, so I wrote this scene with that in mind, but then I had to delete it.

Rose protects the Jarlan 5.

Rose wasn't proud to admit it, but she panicked.

The moment the dracaenae closed in, she lost it and immediately wrapped Violet, Jinny, Loyal, and Andrés tightly together with vines.

"Uh, what are you—" Violet started.

Rose lifted the vines and threw them off the bridge.

They screamed all the way down.

When the vine reached its end, they bounced and then started swaying wildly, wrapped up like upside-down salami.

"ROSE!!!" Violet screamed.

"I don't want to dieee!!" Jinny sobbed.

"I want my mom!" Loyal yelled.

The swaying relented. They were about 6 feet over the surface of the water.

"Shush!" Andrés said. "She's hiding us!"

"She threw us off a bridge!!" Violet shouted.

"I don't like being thrown off a bridge!" Jinny yelled.

"Stop screaming!" Andrés yelled.

"You're screaming!" Violet said.

"I feel sick," said Jinny.

"Don't throw up," Loyal warned, "because then I would throw up. Throwing up is contagious. Like yawning."

"Now I want to throw up," Violet said.

Andrés looked up towards the bridge, touching his chin to his chest.

"What's going on up there?" he said.

"I don't like how it sounds," Jinny whispered fearfully.

Nobody did. They could hear screams and the sounds of metal hitting metal.

Suddenly Billie NG flew off the side of the bridge, screaming bloody murder.

She somehow managed to redirect her body so that she was diving straight down and produced a minimal splash.

"Billie!" Violet screamed.

Billie resurfaced, spitting water and coughing. She let out a curse. Her gold makeup was all ruined and her blue hair was sopping wet and frizzy.

The drop would've killed anyone. She must've had divine aid, or immeasurable luck.

"I'm fine!!" Billie NG yelled at them. Then she frowned. "What the Hades are you doing there!?"

"Rose bungee threw us off!!" Violet shouted down.

"I always wanted to try bungee jumping," Loyal muttered. "Not anymore."

"I'm going to swim to shore and get back to the fight," said Billie. She looked down at the water. "Shoot, my sword."

She started swimming to shore, which was considerably far.

Up on the bridge, the Demeter kids had almost prevailed.

Miranda and one of Rose's brothers had been badly stabbed and were hiding behind a large bush they had grown, doing their best to patch each other up.

There were half a dozen dracaenae left, and they were furious.

Rose's kill count for this battle was currently three. Two with her arrows, one with her sword, which she was now wielding.

She hadn't strayed from the spot from which she'd thrown the four kids off. The large root was always right behind her, and she never got more than two feet away from it, determined to protect it.

She was anxious about Billie who'd just been pushed off and desperately wanted to make sure she was okay.

She dodged a dracaena's spear and sliced it clean through with her sword.

The dracaena stared at the spear in shock for a moment, but it was a moment enough for Rose to stab her through the throat.

"Four," she panted. She mentally thanked Connor for teaching her how to wield a sword.

She quickly looked around and saw that all their other opponents were engaged in battle. She decided she was safe enough and looked over the edge of the bridge.

Her salami-ed children were still upside-down, swaying gently from side to side but otherwise completely safe.

Billie was okay too. She was swimming to the bank but was still pretty far away.

Rose exhaled with relief.

"Rose! Behind you!" she heard Miranda scream.

She spun around and ducked under a sword to the head. She let out a swear word and kicked the dracaena in the stomach, throwing her back.

She dodged another strike to the head but was slightly destabilized. She felt a sharp pain in her arm, where the hellhound had bitten her.

She let out a scream and crawled backward towards her root.

She grabbed onto her arm—barely a trace of blood. The dracaena had barely grazed her.

"I'll kill you!" the dracaena yelled, right before a wooden javelin appeared in her chest, skewering her from behind.

The dracaenae crumbled to golden dust with a shriek.

"Rose!" Katie shouted, running to her side. "Are you okay!?"

"Ugh, it hurts really bad," Rose wined.

Katie examined her wound as one of their sisters finished off the last dracaena.

"There's no blood. Your wound was still healing, that's why it hurts. Take this," she said, giving her an ambrosia square from a bag in her pocket.

"Thanks," said Rose, eating it.

Katie looked around and frowned. "Rose... where are the kids?"

"Oh..." Rose sheepishly pointed at the root.

Katie disbelievingly looked over the edge. She slowly turned back to her sister.

"Rose. I apreciate that they were safe the entire time, but you can't yeet children off bridges."
