Connor was still passed out on the couch when the Jarlan 5 heard a knock on the door.
Iris had been sitting down on a chair in the small kitchen, staring out of the window as it started to drizzle, dark gray clouds on the horizon, but the sun was still shining through. Maybe she was thinking about how, if she were at full power, she'd be creating a rainbow for the mortals to admire, right in that moment.
"Who's that?" Raven whispered urgently.
"Was Connor expecting anyone?" Andrés asked nervously.
"I don't know," Jinny muttered.
"Theodore's scared," Adora whispered.
"Theodore is a rock," Violet hissed.
"Somebody has to open the door!" Loyal said.
"But what if it's an armed robbery?" asked Nino, who'd always watched way too many cop shows with his mother.
"Nobody armed-robber-es motel apartments," Raven snapped.
There were three more knocks and the seven of them jumped again. This caught Iris' attention, who simply smiled at them warmly, amused.
"Someone has to go open that door!" Loyal repeated.
"For Heaven's sake, it's just a door," Violet said.
"Then you go!" Adora snapped, holding Theodore the Rock protectively to her chest.
Violet sighed and got up from the small couch, walking over to the door.
The other six of them scrambled to hide behind the table, in the small bathroom, and behind the couch.
Violet opened the front door, revealing three disheveled teenagers, two girls and one boy, carrying a pair of ruined, dirty angel wings, whose stubs seemed to have been dipped in golden paint.
"Nothing to worry about!" Violet called back to the others. "It's those three other people Connor was friends with!"
A collective sigh of relief reached the entrance, earning a curious glance from the newcomers.
They trudged into the apartment and placed the wings on the kitchen table.
Iris stood up, finally relaxing, relieved to see her old friends again.
"Those things are so heavy," Travis said, sighing in relief when they let them go. "Uh, no offense," he added sheepishly in Iris' direction, but she didn't even hear him.
"I didn't really like when the pirate owner asked us why we were carrying two swan cadavers. In his words, it was real concernin', matey," Katie said, finishing with a pretty bad pirate accent.
"Where's Connor?" Rose asked immediately.
Jinny pointed her towards the couch.
She smiled warmly at his sleeping figure and quickly fixed her extremely dirty and messy hair in her reflection in the window.
Then she walked over to him, and gently shook him awake.
When he opened his eyes, Connor's face immediately brightened, like a child realizing it's their birthday.
"Rose! You're okay!" he said, excitedly, jumping off the couch and hugging her tightly.
"I am okay!!" she agreed, laughing, "but I'm filthy and you smell like you just showered, you probably shouldn't hug me."
"Zip it, neat freak!" he laughed, holding her tight.
He finally let go when Travis cleared his throat. "Hasn't seen me in hours and it's like I'm a complete stranger."
