It was a few hours past midnight by the time Y/n went home. She had a feeling that Gracie would not have left, wanting to work it out when Y/n came back, so she wanted a better chance of getting in and out unnoticed.
Even if Gracie tried to wait up for her, the chances of her still being awake at 3 am were slim.
Y/n slipped in quietly. From what she could see from outside, all the lights were out. She walked towards the stairs, walking past the living room door.
There was a small side lamp on and Gracie was sitting on the couch. After a few seconds, Y/n realised that she must be asleep like that as she didn't move at all. No doubt she had tried her best to stay up all night.
Y/n continued up the stairs, taking care to skip the step that always creaked beneath their feet. The less noise she made, the better.
Especially since Mia was likely still here too. She didn't exactly have much elsewhere to go, not on such short notice at least. But Y/n couldn't find it in her to care. Mia could move in with a friend if she can't afford to rent a place.
Y/n used to love this house. She bought the place before she even got married and then Gracie moved in after their marriage. But now it just didn't feel the same. It felt cold and bleak.
Wherever she looked, she saw memories. Memories with Gracie. She thought she'd be able to live here after it's all said and done, but now that didn't seem like such a possibility anymore.
She couldn't live in a place that constantly reminded her of what happened here and she couldn't help but loathe Gracie for ruining this place for her. It was supposed to be her safe space, her happy place and now it's the source of all her problems.
Y/n pushed past all the emotions and memories building up and went to the master bedroom.
She flicked on the light and started packing things into a duffel bag. She took all her important documents and clothes to last at least a week since she didn't know when she'll be able to come back.
She was about to leave the house but then decided to leave a note for Gracie. She made her way to the kitchen and got a piece of paper and pen.
'Just so you know, I filed for divorce papers. They'll be with you soon. You can have until the end of the week to pack up. Please don't make this any harder than it needs to be.' Y/n scribbled down.
She left the note on the coffee table right in front of Gracie. She wanted her to know that she was here and so close, but she still missed her because she fell asleep.
After that, Y/n took her leave, going back to the hotel she had booked for the night. She would probably end up staying there for the rest of the week, hoping to get everything sorted within that time.
When Y/n and Gracie got married, they signed a prenuptial agreement, which made things easier as they didn't have to fight over how they would split their assets as pretty much everything was accounted for.
They had a clause in the prenup about the consequences in the event of infidelity, but Y/n was even willing to overlook that if it made the process faster because at the end of the day no assets or money would make the heartbreak any easier.

Gracie slowly woke from her slumber, a small ache settled in her lower back. She grumbled from the discomfort before quickly shooting up as she realised she had fallen asleep.
She knew it was morning as light poured in through the partly opened curtains of the living room. Gracie cursed under her breath before her eyes even caught the folded piece of paper in front of her.
Gracie took a deep breath, reaching out with a shaky hand. She knew it was from Y/n. She recognised the handwriting from her name scrawled across the paper.
She couldn't believe that Y/n had been right there, inches away from her and she completely slept through it.
Gracie took a moment to collect her thoughts before slowly opening up the note. She didn't know what she had expected, but it wasn't this.
She couldn't believe that Y/n filed for divorce papers within the day, without properly discussing what happened. Gracie reread the note over and over again, tears welling in her eyes. She couldn't accept that it was over.
Mia trudged down the stairs, still wearing her pj's, her hair messy. Clearly she had just woken up.
She notices Gracie sitting on the couch, staring at a piece of paper. "Hey, what's up?" Mia asks softly as she notices the tear slowly sliding down Gracies cheek.
Gracie quickly wiped it away, clearing her throat. "Y/n was here... she left a note." Gracie said, holding back a sob.
Mia sits next to Gracie, pulling her into her chest. "She already filed for divorce," Gracie says, her voice wavering.
"I'm so sorry." Mia says quietly, trying to comfort the woman she has fallen head over heels for. The one woman that she should have stayed away from. But what's done is done. There was no undoing this. There was no going back ever since the first time they kissed.
Gracie cried in Mias arms for a while. She knew that she shouldn't, but she didn't have the energy to push Mia away.
"I'm here for you." Mia whispered quietly, moving a piece of hair out of Gracies face. Gracie only grumbled, not wanting to respond.
"We can be together now. She'll no longer be in our way." Mia said, which made Gracie pull away abruptly, almost falling off the couch as she did so, before she stood up.
"What did you just say?" Gracie asked furiously. Mia stood up too, confused by Gracies sudden outburst.
"Gracie...I- I love you. There's nothing standing between us anymore." Mia said softly.
"Are you actually insane?!" Gracie says, raising her voice. "Come on, we don't have to let this ruin our love." Mia says as she reaches out for Gracie.
"Our love?" Gracie scoffs. "I don't love you. I never have and I never will. Don't you get that. You ruined everything for me!" Gracie yelled.
Mia flinched as Gracie screamed at her. "You don't mean that." Mia said, her voice quivering. "Yes I fucking do. I don't want anything to do with you. You're deluded if you think I have feeling for you." Gracie said, breaking Mias heart into a million pieces.
Mia leaves the room abruptly as tears well in her eyes, leaving Gracie alone, simmering in her anger.
"Fuck." Gracie cursed, throwing herself onto the sofa. She couldn't believe she lost everything over a stupid affair that meant literally nothing to her. It may have been fun, but it wasn't worth it in the end.
How was she ever supposed to move on from this. Life just didn't seem to have a meaning without Y/n by her side.
How could she have been so stupid. It took losing Y/n to remember just how much she really loved her. Ever since the day they met, Gracie thought that she was in love. It was love at first sight for her.
