2 days later...

It was nearing the end of the week, by which time Gracie and Mia were supposed to leave. They only really had one more day left to pack.

Mia has fully packed up her room. She didn't have all that much stuff to begin with. She planned to move in with a few of her friends from college, while Gracie rented an apartment for herself.

The last couple of days had been extremely awkward for the two. Ever since they had their argument, things haven't been the same.

"Hey," Mia said softly as she came downstairs, catching Gracies attention. Gracie gave her a hum of acknowledgement, this was the most they had spoken in the last days.

"I know we haven't really been talking lately, but I don't want us to ignore each other. We had a really good few months and I'd hate for it to end like this." Mia said, as Gracie stared at her.

Gracie stood watching intently as Mia stepped closer to her, cupping her cheek and wiping away a tear Gracie hadn't noticed rolling down her face.

She found herself crying a lot these days, so she wasn't particularly surprised. She didn't lean into Mias hand against her cheek, but she didn't pull away either.

This gave Mia a boost of confidence as she leaned in and captured Gracies lips. "I can't." Gracie mumbled, pulling away after a split second, averting her eyes from Mias.

Mia tilted up Gracies chin to meet her eyes, their faces barely apart. "This is goodbye." Mia whispered, her heart thudding in her chest.

She has come to terms with the fact that she and Gracie could never be together. As much as she wanted to, as much as it broke her heart, it wasn't possible.

In that moment, Gracie impulsively pulled Mia in closer by her shirt, their lips crashing together in a desperate kiss.

---

Y/n was growing impatient. Two days have passed since Taylor delivered the divorce papers to Gracie and she had yet to hear back whether she signed the papers.

Y/n wanted to get them filed as soon as possible as there was a six month waiting period before their divorce could be finalised.

Y/n decided to get a new car, which meant she was going to sell her old one. She was supposed to trade it in at the dealership later today, so she decided to swing by her house to grab her spare car keys.

She was hoping that Gracie and Mia won't be around, but there's nothing she could really do to avoid them since she needed those keys now to finish the deal.

As much as it would hurt to see them, maybe Y/n could also get the divorce papers in person so she could get them filed quicker.

Y/n pulled up to her house, taking in a deep breath as she saw Gracies car parked in the driveway.

She thought about knocking but figured it was her own house, so she shouldn't be expected to knock before entering.

The house seemed quiet, boxes stacked up by the entrance ready to be taken away. At least that was a good sign. They were actually moving out.

Y/n walked further into the house, towards the living room and open plan kitchen. Her breath got caught in her throat as she was met with Gracie and Mia making out, pulling each other in desperately.

Y/n couldn't really feel anything beyond the initial shock. She was more numb to it than she had expected. This also just reinforced her decision. The divorce was gonna happen, but any doubt she had about cutting off Mia vanished just like that.

Mia was her last family, but Y/n didn't see her as such anymore. Mia was not her sister and not her family. She was just another nobody to Y/n.

Her friends were her family, the people who stood by her no matter what, the people who didn't completely crush her heart and soul. Mia didn't deserve any forgiveness.

Y/n went upstairs to the master bedroom, knowing exactly where her spare keys were. She grabbed them and made her way back downstairs.

Gracie and Mia were finally alerted to someone's presence as Y/n walked down the stairs. They pulled apart, having no idea that Y/n had already seen them.

They were standing further apart as Y/n turned into the area they were. "Y/n, what are you-?" Gracie started to ask but got quickly cut off.

"Are you seriously about to ask what I'm doing in my own house." Y/n said coldly. "Did you sign the papers?" Y/n asked without waiting for a response as she saw them on the counter.

Mia stood aside, fiddling with her fingers as she looked down to her feet, unable to face Y/n. Before Gracies shock wore off, Y/n had already pulled the papers from the unsealed envelope.

Y/n breathed out through her nose as she saw the blank line where Gracies signature was supposed to be.

Y/n slid the papers across the counter and slammed a pen down onto the papers. "Sign them, please." Y/n said through gritted teeth as Gracie stared up at her with watering eyes.

Gracie gulped as she made eye contact with Y/n, slowly taking the pen in her hand. Y/n was not impressed with her stalling. It wasn't going to achieve anything.

"Just sign it and you can go back to what you two were doing when I got here." Y/n prompted, her gaze icy, emotionless.

"I- I can explain." Gracie stuttered, biting the inside of her cheek. "No need. Just sign." Y/n rolled her eyes impatiently.

"Y/n-" Mia finally spoke quietly. Y/n shot her a glare, "did I ask you to speak?" The harshness in Y/n's voice caused Mia to flinch.

She didn't try to speak again as Gracie signed the papers with a sigh. Y/n didn't wait a moment longer as she slipped the papers back into the envelope and left the house without another word.

---

Y/n waited 3 more days to fully return home, if she could call it that. It didn't feel much like home anymore. All it felt like was heartbreak.

The house now half empty as Gracie moved out all her stuff. Y/n walked around making sure nothing was left behind that belonged to Gracie or Mia.

As noon rolled around, Y/n called a locksmith to come and change all the locks on the house. The last thing she needed was for Mia or Gracie to barge into her house as they became desperate to talk to her.

Y/n was finally able to start moving on from everything. Divorce papers were filed, Gracie and Mia moved out. She could start her healing journey.

Her life changed completely in the last few weeks and it was going to take some getting used to.

At least she had her job to look forward to. Y/n loved her new job and her coworkers. It was a nice distraction and on top of that a nice paycheck. What more could she need right now.

---

Y/n has fully moved back to her house for two weeks now, but it wasn't the same as it used to be. It was too quiet and empty.

Y/n still found herself rolling over in the morning and reaching out for Gracie. She almost enjoyed that one moment of happiness when she woke up before her world came crashing down with realisation.

It took some getting used to being alone. Y/n found herself making too much breakfast more than once, forgetting she was now alone, or picking up Gracies' favourite snacks at the store without thinking.

Those were all habits she needed to break because it wasn't helping her. Y/n was coming to terms with everything that happened and all those little reminders of Gracie having once been a part of her life sucked.

Every time her mind drifted to thinking about Gracie, Y/n made herself busy with work, figuring it was the best distraction and it was at least productive.

Y/n didn't want to be held back by this perpetual feeling of emptiness within her. She would slowly grieve the loss of the once two most important people in her life and then let it all go, no matter how hard that will be.

Y/n will take her newfound freedom and use it to better herself and heal her heart from all the suffering it has endured.
