Following the 2 weeks Y/n has returned to her house, she decided that it was time to move on from it. She couldn't bear to spend another day within those four walls.
She had so many memories in this house, good memories, but now every corner was plagued with the hurt that has been inflicted upon her.
It was a hard decision to make, Y/n considered moving out and renting the place, but in the end decided she wanted nothing to do with this building anymore and put it on the market.
She spent a week packing everything away and left it in a storage unit for now. She continued to look for a new place she could rent out or buy, but nothing really seemed to catch her eye.
The next day at work, Y/n was chatting to her coworker over their lunch break. She expressed her frustration of feeling stuck with the house hunt and selling her current house.
Selling the house didn't seem like it will be an issue, but finding a place to live was another story. Every home she viewed just didn't feel right.
Y/n later realised that it wasn't the homes that were the problem, but the city. Y/n no longer felt comfortable living here with constant memories of places she'd visited with Gracie.
She wanted to leave the city and after a conversation with her boss, decided to travel around Europe. Her job being able to be done remotely meant she could continue to work while travelling more.
Maybe by the end of it, she would decide to settle down in one of the countries she visits during her travels.
---
It took a while to get everything sorted, but Y/n was finally able to start on her journey, her physical one and the one to healing.
She knew it would take a lot of work and effort to heal from everything that happened, but it was possible.
She cut all contact with Gracie and Mia as she had no need to stay in touch since her lawyer was taking care of the divorce.
Y/n instantly felt more free when she got notice from her lawyer that everything was finally concluded. It took just over six months for the divorce to be processed and it was finally over.
Y/n was already travelling for a few months when she received the news and it genuinely made her feel a hundred times lighter. It reminded her of the pain, but it also allowed her to really start moving on with no ties to her past life.
Right now, it was as close as she could get to her dream life. Y/n always imagined travelling the world. She just didn't think she'd do it alone.
It was nice to live freely. She met new people, made new friends, but never let her guard down to fall for someone again.
Y/n wasn't sure if she could ever love again. It seemed an impossible task, at least for now, she had to keep her heart closed off while she took the time to heal the wounds that were left.
For once everything seemed to be going great. She was doing well in her career all while seeing new countries and learning about new cultures.
It was a great experience and Y/n was so glad that she decided to do it. Staying in the city she had lived in would have held her back from making progress. It was depressing back there.
---
It took a whole year before Y/n finally returned to the US, though she didn't plan to stay for long.
She came back for a work meeting that she needed to attend in person and was going to stay in the city for a few weeks, just to see how it would feel.
Y/n seemed to have a fresh perspective on the city she grew up in. She was surprised that it didn't stir up any negative emotions given everything that happened.
She stopped by her once favourite coffee shop to grab a drink before her meeting and found herself smiling.
She didn't think about Gracie very much anymore and coming back here proved just how far she had come in her healing journey.
Y/n was single and happy to be. She found a lot of joy in just living freely with no expectations from anyone else.
At this point in her life, she was content to stay single forever. She'd find it hard to really trust someone again, so maybe that was for the better she thought.
The week seemed to fly by quickly. Y/n was happy to catch up with some of her coworkers and see how things were going for them.
She heard some rumours about Gracie dating, but Y/n didn't really care. It was big news back when their divorce got leaked online, but Y/n stayed off social media, not wanting to engage with the speculations and gossip of what's going on.
Having avoided all media about Gracie, she didn't really know how the whole thing went down. If Gracie addressed it at all or what she said if she did.
Mia tried to contact Y/n a couple of times from new phone numbers and social media accounts, but Y/n just blocked her every time.
She had no space for someone like Mia in her life. At the end of the day, she is who she is. Nothing could make Y/n forgive her, not after such a betrayal.
