The next morning Y/n woke up in such a good mood, so happy after her date with Zara. The date had gone perfectly and they continued to text until going to sleep after it.

As Y/n returned back to work, her friends quickly noticed how much happier she looked. Happier than they had ever seen her.

She hadn't told them yet about texting Zara or going out on a date. "Someone's awfully happy this morning," Daan said with a grin. "Spill, what's going on?" Noa added, a smirk plastered on her face.

"I went on a date and it went so incredibly well. I haven't felt like this since...well ever really." Y/n said, the excitement evident in her voice and her face.

"Who's the lucky lady?" Daan asked, wiggling his eyebrows teasingly. Y/n looked around briefly to make sure no one was listening in on them before softly whispering "Zara."

Her friends mouths dropped open, they had no idea they were a thing, only remembered them dancing together at the party some time ago.

"Zara as in our boss's daughter Zara?" Noa asked quietly, shock written all over her face. Y/n nodded slowly, "we hit it off so well at the party and then texted for a bit before arranging a date." Y/n smiled.

"That's awesome, but what about boss? Do you think he would mind?" Noa asked. "Pfft don't be ridiculous," Daan said in disbelief. "That man adores Y/n." He added.

"He specifically introduced her to me at the party. Seemed like he wanted us to get to know each other." Y/n agreed, tho she wasn't sure if dating was exactly his intent.

Just as they were wrapping up their conversation Y/n heard her name being called. She looked up and saw her boss gesturing for her to come over.

"Good luck with that." Daan whispered as him and Noa went to start their day. Y/n felt she had no reason to worry, the man looked as normal. Didn't seem upset at all.

"Y/n," he smiled fondly. "Come in, come in." He said gesturing inside his office and shutting the door.

"Boss, what's up?" Y/n asked as she turned to face him. "You know it's Christmas next week." He started.

"Of course." Y/n answered tho she knew it wasn't a question. He usually did the work Christmas party at the start of December so it doesn't interfere with anyone's holiday plans.

"I know it's your first Christmas with us here and we're very happy to have you." He says happily. "Thank you." Y/n smiles.

"There's a reason I called you in here. I wanted to ask you if you would like to join my family for Christmas." The man offered.

"Oh no i couldn't impose like that. Thank you though." Y/n said appreciatively. "Not at all, we'd be more than happy to have you. I don't want you to spend the holidays alone and my wife is dying to meet you." He said with his usual smile.

"I mean that seems like a big ask, intruding on your family for holidays no less." Y/n says. "You're not asking Y/n, I'm offering. In fact, I'm insisting." The man said.

"Okay. I will join your family. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help with preparations and anything I should bring." Y/n finally accepted.

"No don't you worry about any of that. We got it covered. Just show up on the day." He grinned, happy that Y/n accepted.

Y/n went to start her work after that conversation, not really knowing what to do with what happened.

She wasn't sure why her boss was inviting her and only her over for Christmas dinner. Though as he said it's her first Christmas with the company and it's not like she had anyone else to spend the holidays with.

Excitement rose in Y/ns chest when she realised it means more time to spend with Zara, but also with her parents which wasn't ideal.

---

Y/n and Zara kept texting a lot for the next few days. They talked about Zaras dad inviting Y/n for Christmas and how unusual that was.

Y/n thought that maybe he did this for other people before, but Zara said nothing like this has ever happened before.

After a lengthy conversation about Zaras dad and his behaviour they came to the conclusion that he had some kind of plans in mind.

The way he specifically introduced them, told Zara that Y/n is single, constantly praised Y/n to Zara and her mother and now an invitation to family dinner.

They were pretty sure that he was trying to set them up which eased Y/ns mind since as good of a man he was, she didn't know if dating his daughter was acceptable.

Y/n and Zara squeezed in two more dates before the holidays. Their second date was a quaint little cafe downtown followed by a trip to a museum and their third was mini golfing. Y/n would never admit this, but she went easy on Zara to let her win.

---

Christmas Eve rolled around and Y/n was actually quite happy. Last few years holidays were miserable so it was a nice change of pace.

She was spending the day with Daan, Noa and their partners. In the morning they all met up for brunch and then went back to Daans and Jesse's house.

They frequently used their place for get together as the two men loved hosting and had the most space for it.

Noa live in an apartment and Y/ns house to this day was still not fully furnished. So Daan was more than happy to be the default host for their parties or hang outs.

The afternoon started with games like Uno, expoding kittens and Carcassonne. Everything was put on pause when the pizza delivery arrived and everyone got to eating.

It was around 6pm by then and the earlier games were put away for something a little more adult. They moved on to drinking games and the energy shifted quickly as everyone got a few drinks in.

When everyone was sufficiently buzzed, Jesse pulled out the karaoke. The night was fun, singing and dancing and a little stumbling around.

Y/n in her drunken state decided to text Zara. "Cant stop thinking abt uou…wishh u were hereeee” Y/n texted a little sloppily before quickly being pulled back into the chaos of the party by Noa.

"Y/n are you drunk?" Zara texted back almost straight away. Y/n hadn't told her of her plans tonight and Zara was slightly concerned. "You ok?" She followed up after a few minutes of no reply.

"Wit Daan and group :) cant waitt ti see ur pretty face tomo" Y/n replied 30 minutes later as she finally checked her phone. It was close to midnight by then.

Zara chuckled to herself at how drunk Y/n was. "Goodnight Y/n" She texted back, not sure if she'll get another response.

"Nite :)" y/n texted back straight away and put away her phone. Zara silenced her phone before going to bed as per her routine so she wouldn't be bothered and woken up.

A few hours later around 2 am everyone crashed. Y/n took the couch and Noa with her boyfriend took the guest room.

"Luv u" Y/n sent one last message to Zara, before going to sleep.
